Re: 2nd 1972 Chevy Fleetside build (Green Monster)

WOW Chris!!!....you made quick work of that crappy floor...I'd be embarassed to take that thing to the scrap yard!!!!
Glad the bracing was "over" engineered....I think you'll be pleased that you did the whole floor and not piece mill...you'd still be looking for a place to weld the floor pans too!!!

Keep up the great work man!

How well does the aftermarket floor fit. I have seen here on the board several replacements, but just wandering how well they fit. I really like your idea to use a glove box door for an instreament panel.

Well, The rear flange fit perfect, and the B-pillar lines meet perfectly, but the front weld flange did not work out so hot. I had to do some improvising, which probably worked out better than just using the original flange with spot welds. Overall, I am happy with it. Heck, here is the best part about it, when I walk thru it, I don't fall thru the floor and get stuck up to my shins.

Re: 2nd 1972 Chevy Fleetside build (Green Monster)

Wow. What a great weekend! The weather here in MI was in the mid 60s both days. I got alot of work done yesterday on the bed. It was time to take the cover off, and get it out from behind the garage before the neighbors started complaining about me having too much crap sitting back there.

I took the cover off, and the bottom looked just as I found it. For the most part perfect for a 30+ year old bed. This is how I found it in Northern MI in late November. Picked it up for $250.00!

I had to take the crossmember over the fuel tank and shorten it some before I put it on the frame. I figured, since the weather was nice, why not just get it done so I don't have to take it back off the frame again? So I got out the cutter and the welder and went to work. It needed to be shortened 2.5 inches. It worked out perfect. After I was finished with the crossmember, I hit the bottom of the bed with undercoat, and there you have it. It looked great. The bed went onto the frame with no problems, and the yard was clear. I was happy, the wife was happy the crap was gone and I figure the neighbors were happy to see the trailer dissappear.

Why did you have to shorten that crossmember? Is your tank gonna stick up that high? Good work on the floor. Looks good.

I used the LMC Blazer tank. I guess they call it the relocation tank. It sticks up 2 inches above the frame rails when installed. I have seen others shim it down so they don't have to cut the rail, but then all you can see from the back of the truck is tank. It also makes it susceptible to damage from road debris being that low.

Re: 2nd 1972 Chevy Fleetside build (Green Monster)

OK. I choose a direction for the truck. Due to there being too many shades of red interior parts out there, and my inability to come up with a paint layout I like with Red and Black, it will be Black on Black. I will also be trading out the painted bumpers for chrome ones. Essentally, this truck will be the same as the Prostreet truck, but rolling on stock suspension and wheels. For now anyway. I will also be going to a 3.5 cowl hood. This is shorter than the other truck, but will look nice. The emblems will be the same SS emblems to match the other truck as well. Sorry purests, but this is my truck, and this is what I like.

The interior will swap to a floor shifter via B&M Mega Shifter, and have a black vinyl bench seat. The radio is an Alpine unit with full speed IPOD control, and 10 Kenwood speakers spread throught the cab. Gauges will be Autometer Ultra Lite units. 5" Tach and Speedo, 2 5/8" Volt, Oil Pressure, Water Temp., Fuel Level and Fuel Pressure. I will also be using a Pro-lite for the oil pressure warning lite. I will be dyeing the original headliner and visors black, and covering the door panels in black vinyl.

For the engine, I will be building a 383 stroker, which will inhale thru two edlebrock 500cfm carbs atop a low dual quad manifold. The engine will be 10.2-1 comp. and have a set of Edlebrock aluminum Performer RPM heads with 2.02-1.60 valves. The cam will be a special grind for that truck and engine. The engine will also be completly polished from top to bottom.

The bed of the truck will have a billet fuel filler door grafted to the bed side for the new rear mounted tank. The tailgate will be smoothed out, but will have the Chevrolet lettering put back into it, and I will use the clear lenses for the tail lights and side markers. I will be removing the center stake pocket hole, and applying a liner to the bed floor, and adding a tonneu cover.

So there you have it. I have thought about this alot. Can you tell? More pics to come soon...............

Re: 2nd 1972 Chevy Fleetside build (Green Monster)

Check this out. I was coming back from the bus station where I was sending a grill shell to MN, and found this 8' fiberglass tonneu cover on the side of the road in a ditch filled with water. I thought I was seeing things at first. Maybe it was a mattress or something. So I pulled over and backed up to where I saw it. I'll be damn if it wasn't a tonneu cover that blew off a truck on the innerstate. The guy never came back for it. We tossed it in the back of a truck a brought it home. What do ya know. It fits!

Re: 2nd 1972 Chevy Fleetside build (Green Monster)

We're moving forward. I have the B-pillar lowers on, just need to hang the cab corners. I feel better knowing what I am doing with it now, with regards to it's direction. I may do something different yet with the engine. I have a good friend that is a master builder of mountain motors. He has built some high profile cars in his past, such as the pictured Fastest Street Car shootout car. I need to talk with him a bit more to see what he thinks, but I may pull my prostreet truck engine and do a piston, cam and intake swap to it. Then I can put it in the project truck. For the Prostreet truck, I may go in a different direction all together.

Thanks to all who helped, and watched the build get to this point. This is the end of the road for me on the site.

Damnit. I see that happen here alot. I dont agree with you selling products, then not paying your dues, i just hate how no one can seem to come to a conclusion and they always end up leaving.

I can't fix it if I don't know I am doing something wrong, untill it is too late.

You were told what was wrong and you chose to ignore it. You took it upon yourself to sell as a Vendor without the Vendor subscription. You got caught and now would like to play innocent.

It is a very easy issue to rectify as far as "fixing it". You can pay your yearly Member dues and the entire issue would be resolved. Your original $25 yearly Member dues were applied towards your $25 Vendor status for one month.

A bit of friendly advice: To continue to air your dirty laundry before talking to Josh is not doing a lot help your case.
