Fuel Line Clip Question

My '68 C10 has 5/16 hard fuel lines (307 engine). The line that runs along the frame is held with the regular clips everywhere except at the very front end up by the fuel pump. At that location there is a large slotted hole in the frame and there is a piece of sheet metal bent around the fuel line, stuffed through the hole, and bent on the outside of the frame to keep it in place. It does not appear to be an original factory clip because the ends appear to have been cut with tin snips and the cuts are crooked. What did the OEM clip look like in this location?

My pretty original '68 C20 w/327 engine does not have a clip in that location. Mine is metal line all the way to the fuel pump though.

Interesting. Is that a 3/8" line? My line is flared at the end like it is intended to have a soft line from there to the fuel pump.

I looked through the photos of my old '67 that also had a 5/16 fuel line (250 I6). It appears that it didn't have a clip in this location.

Yes, mine is 3/8".

Here's a picture taken during teardown of my fairly early '69 C/20 with 350 and and 3/8" fuel line. A rubber line runs from the curved end to the pump. I have no idea if that was a change for '69.

Thanks for posting the photo. My line stops back closer to the fuel pump, so the soft line has the 180° turn in it instead of in the hard line like yours. Having the bend in the hard line seems superior in my opinion, since it won't ever kink.

I saw this clamp on a 67 C30 in a wrecking yard today. Maybe this was for the fuel line?

My 67 (283 v8) had the same clip in the same location. I removed it when I ran a new hard line to the rear tank.

Was it wrapped around the fuel line?

Yes, and given its location it was a pain to get loose. I didn’t replace it. I ran new supply and returns to the rear tank in case I ever go fuel injection.

Thanks. I don't like how my fuel line is poorly supported in that location.

Going to a rear mounted tank like you did is very tempting.

Battery cable to starter

On my '69, that clamp is used to retain the positive battery cable as it is routed to the starter. From there the cable passes through a couple clips attached to the oil pan bolts before getting to the starter.

Thank you. There doesn't seem to be a hole for a clip like that on my 68. I think it would be strange if GM left the fuel line unsupported.

Mine was a clip just like big bird and first owner posted. It was pretty much up in the frame where the front crossmember is located so it was hard to get to and pretty much impossible to put another clip in without removing the crossmember.

Do you remember if it secured the rubber line or the metal line?

Secured the metal line. It went a bit further forward along the frame and then turned just like in the photos. Maybe 6” or so of rubber line to the fuel pump.

I know mine is a different year with two extra lines, but hopefully this give you an idea potentially how the fuel line and brake lines ran.
