The Friend Zone

3 words every guy (and some girls I suppose) hate to hear.

I'm going to try and do the cliff notes version of this... I met a girl a few weeks ago and we kinda hit it off. Been chatting, getting to know each other. She's a recent divorcee and stressed she was not looking for anything serious, just wanted to go out and have a good time. I'm in a similar boat so that's fine with me.

Well a couple of days ago she calls me up and says she commited to a xmas party she didn't want to go to and wanted me to meet her out afterwards at a country bar here in town. My honest thoughts are ... we'll go out, get to know each other better, dance a little bit and have a good time. I'm not a hook up on the 1st date sorta person so honestly that wasn't even crossing my mind but we're there and chatting and she tells me. "I really like you, I think we could be friends for a long time." She goes on to say.. "The guys I have been dating lately, we've got out once or twice and then never talk to each other again and I don't want that to happen to us"

Well.. long story short... I'm in the friend zone. HOW THE HELL did I get in the friend zone that quick??? Must be a record or something. I've always been pretty good (which is most of the time bad) at getting in the friend zone but at least it takes a little while..

Ok.. my rant is off. I'm just frustrated

Re: The Friend Zone

being a friend is maybe a good thing.Just hope she knows lots of eligible women for you to meet.If you start dating someone else she will probably be mad that you didn't pick her.Women are funny that way they don't seem to want you til you're taken.

Re: The Friend Zone

There are various reasons you might end up in the friend zone.

1) She's being cautious and wants to know you're for real first
2) She enjoys your company but you don't make her toes curl
3) She enjoys having someone pining after her

The first one is cool, you just need to be patient -- the second is OK if you are satisfied with having a female buddy (be honest about that though and break off if you're always going to be unhappy with that) and the third is a reason to do a smoky burnout onthe way out of her driveway.

No one but you is close enough to the situation to tell which is which.
