I really like the look and simplicity of this unit. No messing with the factory heater. It's Vintage Air PN: 672001-VHY. Has anyone here installed one of these? How did you like it?

That is a great looking unit. I considered it but felt like it might be difficult to mount under our dashboards. I opted for the 67-72 underdash unit from NAP

It was fairly easy to install and it blows ice cold. I kind of like the retro look of the unit. Worst part was having to cut a piece out of the stock heater box metal...but even that was not bad...would have been better if they had included a template...

I had one of those units in my truck when I bought it 6 years ago. Ended up taking it out as it constantly rattled and made noises. To be fair, the unit was older and not well taken care of by the PO. The AC compressor was one of those F*#D units that were huge and took up a large amount of space. Actually had to pull the compressor and bracket assy out of the engine bay to replace the fuel pump when I broke down in St Louis on my way to Maryland (from Nebraska) when I purchased the truck.

I have one similar to that in my 55 from VA and it works fine for me. A little chilly on my right knee though.

Would like to revamp this old thread, looking at one of these for my 72. Already restored my heater box and have it reinstalled.....would hate to dump it for a complete system.

I'm still interested this. I've yet to pick up this unit, but my 2800km drive in the summer heat had me longing for AC & it got me thinking hard about it again.

I seriously considered the VA MK IV for my 67 but declined to go that direction for fitament reasons. If you measure the distance between the firewall and the edge of the dash there is very little room on our trucks for this unit. The face of the unit is going to extend well past the dashboard line and seriously limit legroom kneeroom for the center passenger. Plus I think it would look just terrible. If you look on VA's website the dimensions for the unit are there and you can check that against your truck and see what I'm talking about.

I just bought a vintage mark IV unit that this one is styled after. There is not enough room to install it in my opinion. If you do your knee room will be limited. I may hold it up there and take a photo and post it when I get home later this evening.

Ok, I held it up and my wife snapped a couple of pics. I hope you can see how far it sticks out and my seat is all the way back. [Factory seat]. I have it in the middle as there is no advantage to moving it any farther to the passenger side. I wasn't going to install it in my truck, I just thought I would add a photo to your thoughts,

That is exactly what I was looking for. I was worried that the shallow depth of the dash would push the unit out too far. Can you take a measurement of your unit depth? Great reference photos for the group.

Assuming the repop unit is the same, (or close) in size, I guess its doable. It sticks out more than it looks in the pics. You will have to get creative on the underdash mounts as well. I will do it again and take you some good reference measurements.

yeah, that what I was curious about, if the original was larger than the repo unit? Maybe just a measurement of the overall depth of the OG unit, so I can compare to the VA website. My mind is almost made up already from you photo....thanks again

Ok I laid it on the floor at roughly the same angle you would want to attach it to your dash and with the fans touching the backboard prop, I got right at 13 1/4". I'll try to add a Manufacturers photo of the repop.

It won't go into 4 lo but bending the shifter
could fix that

tutone....thanks for the measurement. That's going to be pretty tight....especially if your significant other rides up close to you!
VA has a unit that is slightly shallower....something like 12.5". It has round vents. looks retro too...still not sure how well it would fit in.

racerop......wow, never would have thought that one would have went in there with a 4wd stick in there too!! thanks for the pic.

Resurrecting this zombie of a thread.

I've purchased and installed the compressor and it fits well and now I'm looking to get the under dash unit. The easy part will be the condenser as I'm intending on installing the factory unit.

Has anyone installed Vintage Air Mark IV under dash AC unit that they'd be willing to show us, tell us the details of the install and tell us how they like it?

I was going to install this unit in my ramp truck but the 4 speed was going to make it un usable. It also wouldn't go in 1/3 gear.

It sucks not being able to hear! LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB! After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
