Is The SM420 A Good Tranny?
Well I have a 1967 283 with SM420 (atleast I think) and I am wondering if this is a good tranny. Thanks

depends on what you want..... for racing or anything no not really...... for pulling stumps and hauling trailers yea bet!

The SM420 is a good tranny. Big cast iron case will take abuse and with its 7:1 1st gear it is one of the favorite trannys for serious offroading.

Will this tranny hold up to my 283 on the street. You know I am a a guy 17 years old. Will it hold up?

will hold up better than most 4 speeds.... but anything is breakable

Darn right it's on tough tranny! Hard to find parts for but you should never have that problem with a 283 SBC!
