Baby Seat in Ext. Cab?

Looking for a little help here fellas. I'm looking at buying my wife a new vehicle. When we were dating, she drove an '03 Chevy 1500 ext. cab. She sold it and bought a car a couple of months before we got engaged. I would love to surprise her with another truck, but I'm wondering if you can get a baby seat in the back seat of an extended cab and still be able to sit comfortably in the front seat. We don't have kids yet, but we'll have this pickup for awhile, so I was curious if anybody could shed some light on this for me. Thanks in advance!

Re: Baby Seat in Ext. Cab?

I don't know how tall you are, but I am 6'7''. I wanted to buy an ext. cab truck, we tested it out and it only worked if you put the baby seat in the middle and the front seats were buckets. So, my wife looked at me and said that I needed to get a crew cab since I planned on keeping the truck for atleast 10 years, so I needed something our kids could grow up in. Whatever you decide good luck.

Re: Baby Seat in Ext. Cab?

We've done it, but yeah it's not ideal. Crew Cab would be better. It's not bad when they're little and their legs don't hang over the edge, but if you plan on keeping it for 5 or more years you're going to be cramped. Maybe not so much if you put the kid behind her seat (assuming she's not really tall!). Test drive a truck and take it to ToysRus and tell them you want to test fit a carseat in your truck! just remember their little legs need room to swing and kick, and yes they will kick the back of your seat no matter how much you remind them not to!

It will only comfortably work with the seat in the middle. I got rid of my extended cab and got the crew cab just for this reason.

I have 3 kids, Trust me a Crew is the only way to go.

Rear facing Infant car seats take up alot of room.

Re: Baby Seat in Ext. Cab?

Your wife will want to look back freely to see the baby that's why my son sat behind me in my 06 Ext Cab but, I'm 5'6'' (extra tall) Your baby will be fine but as he or she grows 4 or 5 years, more room is nice. I now have a 06 Crew Cab, roomy for a six footer I'm sure. Also, I think going with a portable DVD player and whatever other play electronic things they got out there these days are way better then built in, you can take them out wherever you go, cheaper then factory installed and if it breaks still cheaper to just buy new. Best to you and your future. Nick
