ReNew an Old Grille 72
My 40 year old grille was in decent condition but had the usual scratches and a few dents. Also 2 holes and a 3" gouge in aluminum from a Snow plow. Plastic inner Grille had 1 tab broke off and a crack in the egg crate near the latch, Hated to throw out a good grille. I have been looking for a nice replacement but cost is high for the whole pkg. I repaired the holes with JB weld used a 2"x3" scrap of stainless stove pipe as backup, then filled in with polyester filler. about 15 hrs of prep and a few hrs of taping and painting

The results are good for a daily driver, the main color on the Blazer is going to be green. Hope to have this truck back on the road this spring...Top Off... Ed

That looks good. I have a nice original inner and outer grill from my 72 that just needs the clearcoat removed and polished (I bought a new one for my truck) and I need to practice on it but Im afraid I will ruin it. I may try it someday when I have more time .

Very nice! I have been looking for a way to improve the looks of the inner grill on my 72 and yours looks great. How did you paint the inner grill like that?

A couple of threads mention stripping off anodized coating on these grilles mostly lye or oven cleaner. after polishing with 600 800 1200 or better wet dry sandpaper and some buffing compound. it will need a clearcoat to keep all that bright.

Blue slab72 Inner egg crate Grille I used 320 paper folded into 1" strip sand all inner and outer surfaces. This gets old real quick. wipe it clean with wax and grease remover. Very light coats of paint due to having to spray it from all directions and repeat on the back. I did primer, base then clear. ( Mine has a 2nd base with 1/4" tape over the surface before it got the blues)
