New member needs help!

Hello all, I am new to full restorations although I come from a family of classic car builders. I spent many a saturday at my grandfathers shop or at the car show growing up. I have dabbled in body repairs and paint, but I am still learning. I recently got a hold of my grandfathers 72 c-10 Fleetside LWB. Grandpa let it go in recent years and ther is some rust. A little welding is in my future. I started sanding to see if there is any previuos body work that needs repair and I found that the drip rail over the windshield has some really bad spots. Both corners have about 6 inches of rust at the corners. So what are my options for the drip rail/ rain gutter. Cut it off or repair it. Any ideas would be appreciated. I have looked around the site alot and I can see there are alot of very knowledgable people here. I look forward to sharing my build although its probably a long term project. Thanks again!

from Colorado! Good to see another C-10 getting "preservation treatment". As WadmalawJoe said, having a few pictures of the damaged/rusted area would help with determining a course of action for your repair work. There are a lot of very talented people here willing to provide advice and support. Good Luck with your truck!

Re: New member needs help!

Rust at the upper windshield corners are typical on these cabs, if you can work metal you can fix it. Check the rest of the cab out before going too far.
Liken these guys said, post up some pics.
Welcome from Central FL.

Thanks for the help! I will try to get some pics up tonight! I am going to tear the carpet out and check the floor boards and I did notice some rust on the firewall. Has any one see. Any pics of custom work done to the drip rail.

Re: New member needs help!

Anybody have suggestions? For this damage I guess I will just attempt to weld in new sheet metal. What are your thoughts about cutting it off or any custom ideas? Thanks
