A rebuild on the q-jet would be your best bet.

Best and cheapest. Take that carb off and have it rebuilt and you'll be happy

I have the 1411, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-1411/overview/

But it depends on what your engine specs are too...is it pretty much stock?

X4.....If you can rebulid it or get sombody that's good do that, but make sure the throttle plate shaft is good and tight, a good rebuilder will put bushings in it,and thats the biggest probelm with a Q JET

X5 on the Q-jet rebuild. I personally would stay away from the 1406.

EDL-1406 , IMO is not a upgrade, it just keeps the motor running. Its a square bore on a spread bore manifold (if its stock) and you will loose some performance.

Another vote for a well rebuilt q-jet.

If you really want to know what everyone thinks, read this: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=436034

Rebuilt Q-jet. If you don't want to ship yours off to rebush the throttle shafts then buy a Summit remanufactured carb. The JET is also a good product.

Rebuild that Q-jet. Dont just do it yourself, have it done Corectly and it will be better than new. I would endorse 'The Carb Shop' in Ontario, Ca.

Re: best upgrade carb 72 350?

I had to replace the carb yesterday. I put the edel 1406 on and it works great. The awesome part is I bought it NEW from advance auto and got it for $214. It is listed for $311 however when I ordered it online I used the chat option and they gave me 30% off.

I have a rebuilt Rochester 2G on my '70 350 that runs great. Are there advantages to going to a Q-jet?

I've been tickled pink with the Edelbrock 1406 the original owner of my truck installed, but its sitting on a matching Edelbrock intake manifold.

I have used Edelbrock 1406's on nearly every vehicle I have owned. Zero complaints and I plan to keep on using them.

Re: best upgrade carb 72 350?

Also am running an Edelbrock 1406 with Edelbrock Performer intake. This is after changing my Rochester 2G and factory cast iron 2BBL intake. What a differance that made. Runs like a striped ape. Not sure about gas mileage but then it being a 4x4 gas mileage it wasn't that good to begin with but I'm quite pleased with it.

I ordered another quadrajet from guaranteed carburetors.com and it has worked great and came with real good warranty.

Just put on a Edelbrock 1406 and Edelbrock intake. Electric choke, starts at any temp, smooth transitions on and off throttle, low but smooth idle. Take the time to dial it in using their videos. Fabulous

Re: best upgrade carb 72 350?

Another vote for the 1406. I replaced mine recently - last one ran for 20+ years without a hiccup. Very simple, inexpensive. This might be a minus for some of ya'll, but I like that Edelbrock is a legit SoCal company. I got a $20 gift card & Tshirt rebate when I bought mine, and the swag showed up at my doorstep like a week after I sent off for it. Most of that crap you wait months for. Minor deal, but it says a lot about the company and their commitment to their customers.

I like the 1406's also, very easy to rebuild. Have one on my GMC for over three years now.

Re: best upgrade carb 72 350?

If you want to upgrade from a Quadrajet, you'll have to go fuel injection

The Edelbrock is not an upgrade in my book.

Me too. Either have the Qjet built or swap to fuel injection.

Re: best upgrade carb 72 350?

The main problem with Edelbrock carbs is you may need a little tuning after you install it to make it work right with your setup. This is so simple. There are some videos on youtube that may help.

I also think the edelbrock is a awesome carb with a little tuning you can't go wrong.
