Bed wood hits frame rivets

Anyone have their bed wood hit the rivets where the rear cross member ties to the frame? Is there supposed to be a spacer? I’m think about dimpling the wood but not sure I want to cut through the finish.

Re: Bed wood hits frame rivets

Should of been more specific- are there spacers that go under the bed wood cross sills to raise the whole bed above the rivets?

Re: Bed wood hits frame rivets

It's been a while since I did mine, but I think there were either 4 or six bolts that attached the bed to the truck, and they had a small rubber pad for separation. I could take a peek later to confirm...

Thanks Old Gold! Mine’s a SB fleetside so there’s 8 bolts that tie the bed to the frame. Do remember if the rubber went between the sill and frame or sill and wood?

I was thinking it was on the frame, but may have to check on that!

Re: Bed wood hits frame rivets

You have to use a Forstner bit on the bottom side to make a clearance recess over the rivets.

‘70 thanks. That’s what I was going to do. Just wish I would have caught it before finish. No worries, got plenty of finish left. Not that it matters much but do you know if that was done that way from the factory?

Dave,
I can't speak to that, but I am sure someone on here knows.

Ok, must not have used any spacers, but don't remember any clearance issues with riveted. Here is what I have:

Thanks. All kinds of mystery fit ups with this one. I blame most of it on the aftermarket stuff I bought years ago.

Re: Bed wood hits frame rivets

There were no spacers on mine when I disassembled it. Original wood in bed had no issue with the wood hitting

Re: Bed wood hits frame rivets

Steppers have a rubber pad that goes between the frame and bed available. Not sure about the fleets.
