School me on wheel size and off-set.plaese

I hung a set of Beltech 3 inch drop spindles on the front of my 69 1/2 ton, The complete front suspension is a swap out from a 79 2wd Blazer. What would be the smallest wheel and off set with out rubbing any parts and what would be the largest wheel and offset with out rubbing the walls i could run with with out any complications
Thanks for any help on this one

I would think 15's to 26's dependent on how much work you are willing to do and the look that you are going for.

Re: School me on wheel size and off-set.plaese

I tried a set of 15 by 9.5 on the front and the wheel rubbed the bottom of the spindle,so by looking i know a 16 inch wheel will not work, and now i cant get it to a wheel shop totry other sizes out unless i but a set of junk rollers

Re: School me on wheel size and off-set.plaese

If i knew for sure 20 x 9 or 9.5's would work on the front i would run with them, but would really like 22's if i knew they would not rub.

Re: School me on wheel size and off-set.plaese

Pictures of it dropped now?

We need two measurements. From the ground (garage floor, etc. flat surface) to the center line of the wheel. Then from the ground to the top of the fender lip.

Do you want the tire to 'tuck' under the fender lip or just be even with it? It seems you like more wheel and less tire?

Also, .. what engine is in it? Big block / small block? You still running the stock springs in it or have they been cut down or anything?

I wouldn't buy wheels until the very last thing.
Put on some rollers for now.
Get your restoration done and driveable.
Then buy wheels.

Re: School me on wheel size and off-set.plaese

You should listen to Keith .. he knows his stuff.

But, as a shot in the dark I'm going to say 20x8.5 on the front. Most of the trucks on here that have been dropped / 20's etc. are running 4.5 or 5" drop in the front. So, if you want 22" up front you may be ok with a 3" drop (?)

That's why I was asking about the engine, stock springs, etc. The stock springs will have weakened over the years. So compared to stock springs you may be = about an extra 1" drop. Big Block / Small Block the big block will be heavier so .. it will be down a little further up front.

Just trying to get you close .. but Keith is right. Get the truck sitting where you want it then fit the wheels to the drop. I do it in reverse .. I find a good size wheel I know will fit. Backspacing, etc. Look at examples of tire sizes and how the tire fits the wheel. Section width, sidewall height, overall height. and make it approx 1 or 1.2" difference in overall height from the back tire to the front tire. So the back tires have about .5" more sidewall on top and bottom than the front tires.

Then .. measure the truck with the wheels on it. What would it look like with 5" drop? 6"? .. BUT when you buy drop springs it's tough to know how much drop you will get. It just might be 2" net drop out of a 3" spring .. you just never know.

So what I'd do is as Keith says .. get it sitting where you want it then get your wheels. Good luck man. And we need some pics!

Re: School me on wheel size and off-set.plaese

I bought my wheels before I had my front clip on. The front stuck out too far, so I had to switch spindles to cpp modular ones that moved the wheel in more......wait to get wheels, it can cost you extra time and money

Agreed, as you never know what things might change, etc. You can go with a 8.5" or 9" up front, if you go with the right backspacing. It will be tight and may rub depending on tires size, but that sometimes comes with trying to fit a 22x9 on the front.

Usually, it is a common setup on the front of these trucks as far as backspace, but because you switched out the clip, I would wait until all sheet metal is on and front is done, then order wheels.

Usually what happens, is if the truck sits real low, the tire hits the top of the fenderwell. So you either have to go with a small tire, raise the truck, run more backspace or just cut and clearance the fenderwell to make it fit.

Re: School me on wheel size and off-set.plaese

Here are a couple of web sites that should tell you all you need to know.

This one shows you how to measure off sets front and rear and rotor clearance and how to measure lug patterns

https://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html

This one will show you the physical size differences of tires compared against each other height and width.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Hope these help.
