Shiney or Flat

So i'm getting close to paint, but i have been stuck on this question for the last 3 months. Do I go with a normal Hugger Orange, or go with Hot Rod Flatz Hugger Orange?

My truck is bagged, rolling on baby moon cap wheels, shaved door handles, shaved gas filler, shaved antena, shaved stake holes, and a roll pan out back.

i'm not going to sway this poll with my thoughts, cause i really am 50/50 on it, and want to see what you guys think.

Someone will say it, so i'll say it now. It's my decision, and i should go with what i want. That's true, and I will. I'm just curious what you guys think.

Oh, I am going with hugger orange because the truck was painted hugger 11 years ago, and the interior and jam paint is in really good shape. This way i just need to paint the outside.

Re: Shiney or Flat

I voted for shiny if your going with hugger orange --- paint it flat and it may just appear faded -- thats because its such a bright, dynamic color to start with

If you were leaning towards black or blue, or green or brown or one of the other "organic" colors, i'd say go flat. Gold looks really good in flat too

I voted shiny as well. I only like flat if it's black. Your truck though, do what you want...

I vote flat, only because everyone else would vote shiny. Be different....or not. I like mine with no shine.

I'd go with shiny. All this talk about Hugger Orange makes me want a '69 Camaro in Hugger Orange even more, now if only I could find one in good shape and that didn't cost a fortune.

Re: Shiney or Flat

if things go as planned, i should have everything done by the midwest meet. i'll even have the oil leaks stopped since my brother offered to pull the engine / tranny while i have the clip off in exchange for a engine stand.

seemed like a fair deal to me, and it ensures i have an extra set of hand to help pull and reinstall the clip.

Cast my vote... good luck with trying to get this together by the Midwest meet. If I can make it I want to see it at the meet!

Re: Shiney or Flat

ok, yeah. I ordered that as well. it's better than seeing it on the internet, but i was hoping to find a way to get one of those plastic car shaped things that they use for all of their pictures. that way i could see what it would really look like in the sun.

Glad to see i'm not the only one who likes the hugger orange idea.

I couldn't decide either, till I started lookin' at other 67-72's in my area. Went with flat because didn't see but a couple. They were beaters. This way I won't get compared to rest. '' Hey Weasel nice ride when you get'er painted!'' LOL!!! Not gonna tell 'em its done!!!

Re: Shiney or Flat

I voted shiney. I agree with the other guy. All that work and money it should shine. Resale value should be thought of also even though nobody ever wants to sell.

I left the flat paint for the under side of my truck. I just put flattener in the clear. PPG gave me the ratio so that it would look like basecoat paint.

Re: Shiney or Flat

thanks for all of the comments. after some thinking, i decided to go with a shinny hugger orange. couple things came into play for this decision.

1. able to repair any "mistakes" that happen during paint.
2. better resale
3. leaves the option open for some big'ish chrome wheels.
4. no "when are you gonna paint it?" comments
5. no "wow, your paint is oxidized" comments

due to this decision, i'll also be getting some new chrome stuff to add to the bling effect. really, the only chrome i'll have is the 67/68 grill rings and headlight bezels. everything else will be shaved.

hopefully i do a decent job with the body work so there aren't many waves.

LockDoc, you and ron may need to come over and critique (aka, help fix) my work some time soon. Ron said today that it's getting to be "drivin weather"

Re: Shiney or Flat

i think it will look good shiney. not only do i like that better, but i think the whole "flat black" and "rat rod" thing will die off in a couple years. dont get me wring i like rat rods and flat/satin black but it looks best on a '32 roadster. ive had enough ratty trucks i want a nice shiney one now! lol!

The rat rod thing may subside but flat black will be around forever. It was around when I started rodding back in the late 50's and it will still be around in another 50 years, (in one form or another).

Just my 2¢ worth

We can do that. He should have his '40 Ford back together this week.

Good call, I voted shiney before I read your post.

Too many body mods to hide it under flat paint. Keep the shiney side up
