leh72super1500 has the exact factory mirrors i'm talking about. they have a big head so you can actually use them AND the bracketry is minimal and doesn't go below the belt line so they are cleaner looking than the full flip out rv mirrors with the same size head. there is a pair on ebay right now but the guy is trying to make a profit by putting the shipping at 27 bucks each and they are not even mint.

1. No side mirrors, in Texas you only need one mirror and it can be the inside one
2. "sport" 71-72 mirrors
3. Peeps.
Anyone have a drilling guide for "sport" mirrors? My right is lower than the left and is unusable. I have 500 holes in my doors

Yep, mine had the big dumbos, the smaller ones, sport mirrors (one is incorrect) and who knows what else

dumbo mirrors you say? to me, they look perfectly proportioned on a our nice big trucks.

i will now refer to sport mirrors and all those other dinky little reflective doo-dads that are too pitiful to actually use as "pee-wee" mirrors.

i hate the sport mirrors on my 72 burb. i can't see anything when i go to back up or even make lane changes. some people say these are the best mirrors. my opinion.....the "costs" are too high to meet someone else's idea of cool. i think i'm gonna try and get the mirrors swapped and the holes filled when i have some minor rust repairs done.

Mine had the big dumbo ears too. Looked way out of proportion. I swapped them out for smaller mirror heads and kept the tripod mounts. Practicality and vanity all rolled into one

ummm.....you have it backwards....

its the big mirror that makes for practicality, not how it is mounted......

basically what you have is a bulkier mount than a sport mirror but with a mirror face that doesn't give as good a view. sounds anti-productive to me. west coast mirrors are more like dumbo ears to me. and they look good on certain trucks like duallies and flatbeds, especially with lights on the roof!

ummm...no I don't have it backwards. How it is mounted has every bit to do with how well you can see out of them. If they vibrate, they are just as worthless as small mirrors.

dumbo, like dumbo the elephant. I have a neck, no need for me to go around looking like pawpaw with giant mirrors. It came from the factory with big mirrors but they were changed somewhere down the line

Are these the "dumbo" mirrors you guys are talking about? This is the truck I am working on for a lady. We can't decide what to go with as far as mirrors go. It's going to be fairly custom with roll pan, smooth tailgate, solid side windows, billet grill etc. Probably will go with the "peeps". Not sure yet.

other than a few minor dings, etc, that truck looks fine just the way it sits now. you have tripod mirrors, but with longer arms than the one's shown previously and yours are mounted lower on the door too. i don't like them as much as the shorty tripod mirrors but they are certainly functional.

the problem with the sport mirrors is that the mirror itself is so darn tiny you can't get a full view behind you. drive a truck with the big 7-1/2" by 10-1/2" mirror heads and you will see that nothing else will do if you drive your truck more than once in a while to car shows. even the somewhat sporty style mirrors on my dad's 87 burb aren't big enough for my tastes compared to the towing mirrors with the big heads he had on the '84 burb he had before it. when driving an 18 foot long pickup (or suv in my case) small mirrors just don't cut it for REAL use.

I went with the 70-72 sport mirrors.

For towing something, the definatly wouldn't be the best choice.

i'm not just talking towing......just the simple act of backing up, changing lanes, parallel parking the little mirrors leave a LOT to be desired. i haven't towed anything wider than a car on a tow dolly yet. i have to move my head all over the place to get an idea of what is beside/behind me. never had that problem with big/tall mirrors. the sport mirrors are a show only route. they are coming off my truck and going in the trash as soon as i can get to it!

I have a smaller version of the tripods on mine and they seem to serve their purpose pretty well. Of course, mine isn't a show truck.

That's what I thought when I tackled the job. Boy was I fooled. I had to replace the bed because of a rotted out floor from a gas tank/tool box that had been in there for years. Replaced rockers, cab corners and floor braces because of rust, one fender, hood, one door, yada yada, yada. I'm into it 100 hours and it still looks like this.....
The only original sheet metal left is the left door, fender and cab.

I have the 6" X 11" Swing Lock Mirrors in Stainless Steel. It is listed in the owners manual as an option. Dealer installed I'm sure and may have been an option you could factory order, not sure.

For a swb: sport mirrors
For a loaded Custom Camper: DF2
For everything else: DG4
I do think the stock 67-69 (or 70, I forget) look the best in THOSE years (ie 3 screw mount small rectangular head) if no Camper mirrors are ordered on the non-1/2 ton trucks. In other words, although DG4 are the best looking mirrors in my opinion, a 72 DG4 doesn’t look at home on a 68, for example).
Oh, and west coast jr mirrors look good on ANYTHING!
