Re: edelbrock inline 6 manifold?
You are looking for Edelbrock SP2P intake. I had one,I sold it,so I could buy a Offy 4 barrel intake.
The intake was designed to use a single, one barrel carb. Jimmy |

Re: edelbrock inline 6 manifold?
I may be wrong, but I'd guess it fits the older 235, 261 L6s, not the "late" 230, 250, 292s that started with the '63 model year.

Re: edelbrock inline 6 manifold?
I don't believe Edelbrock makes them anymore but they may make them for other companies. I did a search some years ago and the only two that I was able to come up with was the Offenhuser (Landon Stovebolt) and the one sold by Clifford Performance.

Re: edelbrock inline 6 manifold?
The intake was designed as a direct replacement for the stock intake.
The edelbrock intake used a Single, one barrel carb. The intake was desiged to be used on 194,230,250 292 engines. The edelbrock intake was not designed to be a performance intake. It was designed for better fuel mileage. Jimmy |

Re: edelbrock inline 6 manifold?
i have one on a 1957 235 in my 1951 Chevy Fleetline. it has two Rochester one-barrels that run at the same time. it's finned and aluminum. i bought it in the 80's and have never seen another one. i'll try to upload a picture.

Re: edelbrock inline 6 manifold?
What Jimmy is talking about is true. The SP2P series of intakes were not high performance by any means. I actually got into collecting SP2P intakes a few years ago for some reason.
During the 70s, and the gas crunch, Edelbrock decided to market a full line of intakes aimed strictly at gas mileage improvements. Folks were trading their American cars in on Toyota and Datsuns because of the oil shortage. Edelbrock hoped to capitalize on this by offering increased economy. The SP2Ps were available for a lot of different engines, including the 194-292 series of inline 6 GM engines. I've also had them for SBC, BBC, small block Ford, and AMC engines. They really aren't worth anything so I just hang them up for shop wall bling. It's a neat little piece of history.

Re: edelbrock inline 6 manifold?
Decided to just keep the Orig. 235 in my 61'. Consider going with an intake to put two single barrel carbs on it. What are the Pros and Cons of going with this set up? My dad says I'd blow the motor with two carbs on....What do y'all think?

Re: edelbrock inline 6 manifold?
ive never heard of a engine blowing up from multiple carbs.. especially a straight 6, they're pretty much indestructible

Re: edelbrock inline 6 manifold?
Have one similar to this, can you tell me why they are water heated?

Re: edelbrock inline 6 manifold?
Because the intake manifold hangs off the side of the engine and doesn't get much heat from it. The intake manifold runners need to be somewhat warm to keep the fuel atomized well for decent drivability. Hence the lines to use warm coolant into the manifold.
The original manifolds didn't need this since they were married to the exhaust manifold and the heat conducted up into the intake this way. Your aftermarket aluminum manifold won't have that option.

Re: edelbrock inline 6 manifold?
I won't argue that carb heat isn't a good idea with some sound theory behind it, but I've been running a 4 barrel on an Offy intake w/o carb heat on 292s for 33 years. I will admit that the truck runs better in the summer. I live in Tucson where 100*+ temperatures are normal in summer.

Re: edelbrock inline 6 manifold?
No heat in MI = fuel drop out, poor driveability and fuel economy. Particularly with any alcohol in the gas, it's rather settle out as a liquid then stay in the air column.

Inline 6 Manifold Heat
Went to the Link sent by 68gmsee and just as explained; my aftermarket has had a tube (nicely) welded to the bottom but then coolant lines aborted. It appears I may have found the answer to my 292's sluggishness. I will reroute the coolant lines to run through the tube and see how it goes.
