Re: Cheap Tricks
Got corrosion in your taillight bulb sockets?
A brass 20 gauge shotgun bore brush and cleaning rod attached to a drill motor works great!

Re: Cheap Tricks
I don't think I posted this yet.....
Ladder socks,I use an old pair of crew socks to cover the feet of my ladder when I bring it in the house for a project. They slip right on and can be kept in place with a small clamp or some duct tape.Keeps the carpet clean and the Mrs happy.

Re: Cheap Tricks
To prevent paint chips from spray cans i take electrical tape and rap the bottom lip of the can pulling the tape tight as i wrap it .
Just in case you or someone forgets and sets it on the hood causing a chip or scratch.

Re: Cheap Tricks
-flip your aircleaner lid upside down for a nut and bolt/toll holder when your working in the engine compartment.
-old drum brake shoes around your tires in the paint booth so your airline doesnt get stuck under the tires -need to jump start a car with no jumper cable? remove good battery flip up side down and put post to post (of course make sure +to+ and -to-) then start car -hole in radiator? crack an egg and let it go in through the rad cap. add water, put on cap drive on.. -those with air-ride suspensions, always carry a "end to end" splice push pull fitting in case of hole in air lines. -those with air-ride suspensions, always carry a block of wood to place between frame and lower control arm in case of bag failure so you can still drive on.. -install an 'old' york style AC compressor to your engine for on board air. fill tires, use for air-ride etc.. -install secodn alternator to use as arc welder when off roading and breakin parts.. -use wife/gfssponge makeup applicators for puttin assembly lube on bearings and other parts -buy wife something so she leaves you alone while working... <---probably best tip |

Re: Cheap Tricks
This has been an AWESOME thread !
Here is one that "may" qualify as a garage cheap trick - I have an old white board on the back of the entry door in the garage, They're great for jotting down thoughts, lists or drawings........until someone (me uses a permanent marker on it. If this happens and you want to remove the permanent marker quickly - just trace over it with the dry erase marker and immediately wipe it off with a cloth. Gone...no rubbing. |

Re: Cheap Tricks
Did anyone mention using a plastic gallon jug with screw-on lid for an (adjustable) head/neck support when spending time lying under a vehicle? Has saved my neck many, many times.

I have never heard that one, but it sounds like a very useful idea.

Re: Cheap Tricks
What to do with those old bias ply tires?
My 70 C10(long gone) came with 15" split rim w/ bias ply tires of no interest to me. If you have them taking up space or have no way to get tires mounted/dismounted find your local figure 8 guys they will have a way. The want those tires. No disposal fee! WIN/WIN

Re: Cheap Tricks
I always liked bias ply tires, when they spring a leak it just goes flat or fall apart, unlike a radial that will go off like a bomb when its done..........
