rear sway bars are great unless your making a bunch of power and you actually traction but a front bar on these trucks is a must have i think thats almost a better improvement than the 400+ horse small block (i said almost)

My brother-in-law bought a set for his 65 C-10 but did not like they way they mounted and I ended up selling them for him on this board. The front bar does not mount like the original GM bar. It mounts directly to the frame (good for lowered trucks) and uses end links instead of bolting directly to the lower control arms. The rear bar seemed like it would hang low. The person I sold them to mounted them on his nice stepside truck and loved them. To me, spending over $100 on a front bar is to much money. At the local u-pull-it I can get front sway bars (any size, I tend to get 1-1/4") for under $20 and you can get new frame brackets from GM or ECE for $20 and poly bushings which comes with caps from Energy Suspension for under $30.

I'm with JJR!!!
For a front bar, just hit the junkyard. I did that --> $20 for bar, $25 for brackets from ECE, and $11 for new bushings. Got it put on over Thanksgiving break (what a pain in the butt) but I love the results. Stupid rivits... stupid stupid stupid rivits

dinnut is correct. I tend to find the big bar (1-1/4") on mid 70's 3/4 and 1 tons. Some 3/4 tons I have seen only have a 1-1/8" bar. If you currently don't have a bar any size (1-1/16", 1-1/8",1-1/4") will be a huge improvement. Right now I have four 1-1/4" bars. I will probably post a couple of them for sale soon. For future reference, here are the Energy Suspension part numbers for truck geaseable sway bar bushings (black).

1-1/16 3.5175G
1-1/8 3.5176G
1-1/4 3.5177G

Hellwig picture?

Anyone have a picture of one of these Hellwig rear bars mounted to one of our trucks? What about the Addco rear bar, it seems to mount a bit higher. I am very curious about both.

I'm planning to install new polyurethane bushings this weekend. Anyone know where to get Moog bushings?

Too bad they don't make a rear one for leaf spring trucks. Oh well, I'll probably make one someday out of something.

I just want to say thanks to all those who have posted info regarding the front sway bars. Sweet7t apperently is a better negotiater than I am. the junk yard wanted $70 fror the bar and brackets, I talked them down to $60, went to the parts store and picked up the Moog Bushings (4) and that ran me $27. Went to the Hardware store to get the grade 8 bolts that was about $8. So for under $100 I was done but a bit more than others have paid. Welcome to California.

oh the rivets.....the first one pi$$ed me off after grinding the head off and it getting stuck and not wanting to come out I drilled a 5/16" hole up thru the middle of it and out it came. The second one I did the same and it was out in less than 10 minutes (drilled before I started pounding on it).

So here is my question.....

How much did the addition of a rear bar improve handling over only a front bar? Are they worth the $140?

I installed the rear ADCO sway bar. Defiantly worth the effort. It really works. With the 1.25 in front and 7/8 rear seems to be balance petty good. I need to add quicker ratio steering. Best example would be sharply pulling into a parking spot. Before the rear would kick up on one corner. Now it stays flat. Feels a lot better going down the highway.
