1967 -1972 front bumper fog lights.

Hey I wanted to see if anyone would have some feedback on bumper fog lights as I have a 1971 truck with the 69-70 grill in it. I really like this grill and do not want to change it. I did need a bumper and came across a 1971-1972 bumper which if anyone knows has the parking lights in the bumper. My dilemma is the the 69-70 grill has the parking lights in it. So I was thinking of using this bumper with some fog lights in place of the parting lights. Just wanted to get your thoughts on it and attached the only photo I could find of this. Thanks for reading!

Re: 1967 -1972 front bumper fog lights.

I had a similar idea to use a '72 bumper with fog lights on my '68 C/10. I found out the '71-'72 support brackets were different from thw '67-'68s. A friend who had a chrome shop, traded me the '72 bumper for a chromed '68 bumper and his shop guys cut out square holes for my lights. Then I had a machinist make up some aluminum cones with an angle cut so I could mount my fog lights from a small hole in the bottom of the bumper.
Ran them on my '68 C/10 until the bumper got tweaked in a fender-bender.
A few years later, I straightened out the bumper [and fogs] and mounted on my '67 K/10 Suburban. Looked cool. Worked great until I was on a ski trip, and had everything on -- heater, fan, defroster, wipers. lights, stereo, CB, cop scanner, and foglights and wondered why my battery was going flat. I needed a bigger amped alternator to pull loads like that.
For limited duration, with fewer accessories on, it worked OK.
It's a cool gag. I had fun with it.

I hear ya yeah I think it will work good on mine since it is a 71 truck the bumper should work fine. I was just worried the lights in that place would look a little off and wanted to see some examples and I like to learn from others rather than spending the money and not being happy. But sounds like you like the look. I should be able to pick up the bumper for $50 so not too much to lose.

Re: 1967 -1972 front bumper fog lights.

Make sure you get the bumper brackets along with the bumper if you have an earlier truck. The red Stepside in the first post isn't your truck? The frames do not change but bumper brackets do.
I'll try to shoot some pix of my ''custom'' bumper. [I couldn't find any in "Pictures'' on my computer.] They sized the cut-out to my lenses. '71-'72 parking lights are a little wider.
Some high tech LED lights might fit the stock hole, but won't look old school at all. Personally, I don't like the color temperature of LEDs. Too artificial. I like the old yellow look.

Yeah that truck ant mine that was the only example I could find on the web but here's mine don't look too bad but still needs a lot of work but yeah if you can send me some pics or post em here that would be awesome. Also I ant got the brackets I should be going to get the bumper tomorrow and will see if the guy has em if not I think I can get em for about 60 or so bucks. Don't wana spend it but gotta have em. I might try and find some on another truck though.

Re: 1967 -1972 front bumper fog lights.

Looks good 68OrangeSunshine I did pick up my bumper today had to drive a good ways but got it for $50. I still gotta get the long brace for the front but the short tabs were included.

Here's a pic of mine

Back side is rusted up a good bit but I figured I could clean em up a little and paint it maybe.

Re: 1967 -1972 front bumper fog lights.

Are you going to keep the 69-70 grille or use the 71-72 grille in the pic?
If you do use the 71-72 grille you will need front turn signals/running lights. You could mount aftermarket lamps behind the egg-carton grille. You will still need front-visible reflectors to be 1968 Fed reg compliant, I think. I used white 3M reflector tape on my front bumpers.

Re: 1967 -1972 front bumper fog lights.

You have a great idea going there. All need to do is get the measurement of the opening, and go looking for lights that would fit. There's lots of LED and Hologen lights out there that would work for you. I did this sort of thing with my 70 bumper,, but I cut round openings and fabbed brackets to mount them. One other thing I did was recessed them and made buckets around the lights. This is a pic,

custom10nut that is awesome right there looks like some of them LMC bumpers! And I believe that LMC sells clear parking light lenses and my Theory is to get some bulbs that will fit the parking light assembly but that are regular lights. Not sure if that will work but if not like you said just find some aftermarket ones that fit well. Thanks for the pic and how did you wire them up into low beams or just separate switch for fog lights?

68OrangeSunshine I'm gonna run the 69-70 grill I just love that one and works great cause the truck is a 71 truck so I know the bumper will work.

Well the frames are all the same, it's the bumper brackets that differ. I don't know if 69-70 were the same as the Early [67-68] or Late [71-72] or their own thing. But you need the outer brackets for a '72. Unless you could fab your own from steel strap?

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I want fog lights on my truck too but I'm going the "old route" and just mounting them to the sides of the grill guard I bought for the front end.
