Mike, great job on the build. I'm getting ready to tear into my 68 swb fleetside and it I will be running the exact same setup 350/350 so I really enjoy watching yours unfold. ordered my front extreme dropmember a few weeks ago. Saving for my rear kit now. Im in Cincinnati so I know what you mean about the weather. keep the pics coming love seeing all the progress you've made.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

I actually got in the garage this weekend for a little bit. I welded some fittings in the front frame rails for my flexible brake lines to mount. I also ordered like $150 worth of fittings and things to finish up these brake lines. I should have just went with 3/16 mild steel rather than the 1/4 SS route I took. Oh well as we all say it will be worth it in the end. I hope.

Why aren't you liking the SS? Is it the cost of the fittings?

I don't know just frustrated i guess. The SS wasn't that bad. I would have still had money in the fittings if I had used mild steel also. I'm sure more of it is the way I am going about doing the break lines which is probably above and beyond what I really need to do. Trying to make everything too pretty i guess, if that is possible. Oh well I hope to get my items from Summitt this week and work on it this weekend and have some pictures to show.

I got all my brake line goodies in the mail yesterday. Hopefully I can work on it this weekend and get something accomplished finally.

In such a short time your truck has taken quite the turn. It is turning out amazing and you have to be very proud of yourself for what has been accomplished so far. My kids are the same. Always in the shop and helping. Nothing better

Thanks James. I appreciate it. Once it gets warmer I'm going to try and get them in the shop more. At 7 and 5 they just want to play and dont like noise. But they do like watching the sparks when I grind something as long as they have headphones on, haha.

No update really other than the fact that it should be in the 30s next week which means I will be finally able to get back in the shop and get the darn breaklines hammered out.

Nice!!
I feel your pain. I fought getting my trans , driveshaft and rear end lined up
to clear PB stuff but after a few email from Nate it all worked out.
Im so glad I didn't powder coat the frame, at least now I can touch it up with
out to much trouble.

I hear ya on the frame and all other components. I started putting mine together during a high humidity time so I had to prime and paint mine. If i had done it all in raw sheetmetal it would all have surface rust on it by this point. I may have to touch up some things but it is all under the truck so it can look good from a distance right? lol I'm building a daily driver that just looks killer not a true show truck, I would be broke if I took that route.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

Well I got out in the shop for a little bit tonight. I started to cut away some of the final rust repair on the cab. The dreaded upper interior cab peice. I started to cut away a little to see how much rust was inside. There is some surface rust beyond the holes on the inner ledge. I have some rust inhibitor to coat the inside before putting welding the panel in. By the way this is not going to be fun at all.

But hey the bright side is that I can put the cab back on once this panel is replaced. That will be a big step.
