Re: Special K
Ok, this thread is slowing down so I'll chime in. It's been real fun reading through this thread the last few weeks. >>> Just kidding!! But serious about how I enjoyed reading through. First and foremost, I'm touched that out of the thousands of members here that ten twelve or so cared enough to post concerns Seriously, I have felt the community spirit here for a long time and have felt people here are my friends. Thanks to Boog and everyone else. I chuckled, cracked up, had to look a word up, even fell asleep half way through last night.
Now the explanation. I came to my senses and traded my GMC for a Ford. I knew you wouldn't believe that. I had to have surgery on my peckin' finger and learn how to use the one on my left hand. I thought of a lot of lame and goofy excuses to tell but it came down to using the laptop on battery, ran it down, and when I went to plug it in and discovered the plug had broken off inside. Poof! Cut off from the internet without warning. And I had just paid my cable bill, too! The laptop is a little over a year old. The jack is a round 90* type. I couldn't pick what was left inside out. It's true I have been with taking on a full-time job while keeping up with projects here at home and some family stuff. It took me a while to get the 'puter to a local repair guy. First he let it set. Then he finally looks at it and tells me it's one he can't go inside of. I'm not one to give up on a good thing that only needs one thing fixed. I think of my friend who used to be a business machine repairman and does intricate dentist tool stuff. It took a while to get it him and he said the same thing. Something about the circuit boards are stacked and soldered by machine. But he's like me and decided to open it up. I didn't watch over him, but he fiddled with it for a while, came up with the broken off piece, and got it all back together. What a relief! I hadn't ordered a new adaptor cord so ordered one. The first one was completely wrong... argh. Got the right one now!

Re: Special K
Well good morning K! Welcome back. Some folks may have missed ya. Ain't that something how technology can bite ya in the arse with a simple little cable end?
We're all glad to hear it was nothing health wise keeping you away, well, considering your age and all.

Re: Special K
Welcome back!
Just FYI, there is a recycle/used computer place in Billings. I got a used hp tower from them last fall for $100. They had a bunch of them from a school or business that was upgrading. It has to be plugged into a LAN but it works. There might be an outfit like that near you. Last brand new PC I bought only lasted four years
