you may be right (read the latest issue of hot rod mag) but that's not what I'm refering to. If you tried to turbo this thing, the 350 would die immediatly, I'm pretty sure. I don't push it very hard at all.

With a 2wd truck and relatively short tires I would go with the 3.42's. They are pretty common too so it won't be hard to find them.

keep in mind the 14 bolt also came in 5 lug, in the 454ss. i just bought a 72 stepside and luckily, it already had a 14 bolt installed from the PO.

Still waiting on the wheels, starting to loose faith in the company I ordered them from, but maybe they're getting the same run around crap some other board members have had from Boss trying to get them. Oh well...still working on it anyways.

I installed an ECE super track bar and lower shock relocation mounts. The upper shock mounts are on back order, so I'll get them on later. I'm gonna pull the bed off to get to the rivets to remove the originals and also pop out the rivets that holds a cross member into the frame from the original leaf spring suspension (my 68 doesn't have that cross member). This cross member is right where the mufflers are, so the whole exhaust isn't quite where I'd like it, so once I get this cross member out, I can get the exhaust where it needs to be. Plus, I can run the rest of the exhaust out the back since the wierdo panhard bar no longer blocking it since it's no attached to the trailing arm.

Painting is coming along: Got the roof and one bed side painted. I also have the other bed side primered and ready to paint. The doors need just a little more welding and then filler to smooth them out and they'll be ready for paint.

Finally, the tailgate needs some more welding and it will be ready to finish up.

The last word I got on them (last friday) was Boss had shipped them the wheels, but they hadn't arrived yet.

Then they have to put tires on them, and then ship them to me.

Teaser shots of the truck. I have a few more coats of paint to put on the bed and doors, and I may scuff the front end and put another fresh coat on it.



Got two wheels put on tonight. Had to grind the front hub as most do. With only 8.5" wide wheels, I don't think I'd have to put spacers on the rear, but then again, it will look better with spacers.

One thing is for sure, these wheels/tires are a lot heavier than the Racelines I have on my 68. But what do you expect for <$200/wheel compared to >$600 per wheel.

It's Valspar brand spray paint from Lowes. Its a Satin red. They have a few different colors now. I'm putting down a base layer of white primer (Valspar also) and really makes the red pop, and reduces the number of coats needed for good coverage.

Looking at the stance with the new wheels and tires, I'd like it to be a little lower, but I don't know if that will happen (at least for awhile ). I might put a 1" block in the back and maybe cut a coil or so off the front, but we'll see. Need to get it out in the light, get the wheel spacers, and see how it really looks.

I'm going the same route paint wise on my 69 K10 project just with a different color. It will be a parts hauler, winter beater & play toy that will get scratched up for sure. It won't hurt so bad when the paint is only $9 a quart.

Paint is done (except for the front clip...if I decide to shoot another coat on it)

I started putting the interior stuff back together.

I still have some work on the tailgate. Pretty happy with the way it turned out.

Got some more painting done today and some other little things.

First, I tried to install my new Summit tach. Got it wired up and it starts at 500 rpms with the engine off, and then you fire it up and it goes up to 1200 rpms (about 500 rpms too high). It also seemed slow to respond. So it will have to go back

Worked on painting the tailgate. I welded up the other side that I didn't get to before where the spot welds had popped loose. I didn't clean up the whole thing like I'd really like, I just wanted something to put on the truck for now. So I primed the whole thing, sprayed the letters with the off white from the grill, then taped the letters, and shot the rest of the tailgate with red. Turned out decent for the amount of time I spent on it.



Then I worked on a buddy's jeep for a bit, then went to a cruise in. I took along No-buck for its first "public display" Ate some burgers, and came home. On the way home I got her up to 70 mph and it seemed to hum along great.

Got the kiddo to bed, then back out to the shop. To paint the shop logo.

Earlier in the day my wife helped out by cutting out some stincils with one of her scrap booking machines. We got some self-adhesive film. So I used those to make the shop logo. Here's the results. Pretty happy. Sorry for the crappy pics, only had my cell phone, and the paint is still drying as I type this:
