Just went through your build and really appreciate the work you are doing. Nice! Bummer about the carrier. Did Summit send you the wrong one?

Thanks man, I really appreciate that... I went back and checked everything again and again... I still think i have the right parts... The way the Richmond pinion is made looks a little different than the factory pinion in the taper on the end facing the carrier. I put the same shim thickness as was with the factory gears and carrier to start with. I was putting it all together without the crush sleeve so I could check the contact pattern but the carrier wouldn't go all the way into the bearing seats before it started making contact with the pinion. Im not sure how much room there should actually be between the pinion and the carrier, but I would think that just having a few thousands to much in shims wouldn't allow contact. Im using 28 thousands on the shims to start with. Im stumped right now.

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

I'm pretty sure you got the series screwed up.
Part numbers you HAVE
-Carrier 19556-010 is a 4 series
-Ring and Pinion set RMG-12BT373T is 3 series
These won't work together.
If you keep one or other correct part numbers should be....
For a 4 series Carrier - Carrier 19556-010 and New 12BT373 Gears
For a 3 series Carrier - New Carrier 19587-010 and RMG-12BT373T Gears

Well Im sure they wont take any parts back after being installed... sort of... so the cheaper way out would be the gears... Now the 4 series does work with the housing right??

Yes, either series works in housing.
The series HAVE TO match or they won't work at all.

Well... just sitting around waiting on the machine shop to get that bearing off the pinion shaft hoping they dont mark up the pinion so I can just go down to Summit and swap out the gears for the right ones...

Ok, the rear end is set up and ready to roll with .010 backlash. It called for .008 to .012 so we are right smack dab in the middle happy place. Contact pattern looks good as well. Cant wait to see how it works on the street.

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

I cant say it enough about how nice and clean this Wilwood setup is. Its so simple to install and everything just bolts right up where its supposed to. That drum style E-brake is such a nice design that doesn't leave the calipers with a bunch of springs and junk hanging off. Just a nice clean design all around. Ill be ordering the front setup as soon as I can and will be using their master cylinder as well. Probably one of the best, if not Best, upgrades one could do to their old vehicle.

Something about a freshly painted chassis with new parts that still excites me. Looks good!

Chassis looks great. Glad you didn't give up, rebuilding is a big job and really big by yourself. Don't look at everything all at once, one thing at a time and then one day you will have a truck. Brakes look amazing, I get mine later today hope they bolt up as nice as yours.

Thanks, the only thing I might complain about on the brake kit is they didnt come with bolts for the mounting bracket. We have a bolt place in town and I had them match up the old fine thread bolts... As much as the kit costs one would thing it would have come with the 8 bolts it takes to mount them to the axle housing with

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

Haven't been able to do much for several days now. I did kick it out of the garage the other day to do some much needed garage cleaning... While it was out of the way I pulled the cab out and did some undercoating removal on the bottom of the firewall. No parts money

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

I think I found my least favorite part of this build.... This stuff is not coming off without a fight. Im not going to worry about trying to get the outer floor clean as I will be replacing both sides anyway. I really dont think I need to try to replace the whole floor.

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

Not a whole lots been done, I did get most of the undercoating striped down to metal, but Ive just been a bit to busy. Job change will have me OTR for a couple weeks at a time now as well, so its gonna slow down even more. Ill be collecting parts for a while and when I get some time off Ill get what I can done before going back out again.

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

Ive got the cab corners replaced along with patches around the windshield channel and outer floor patches as well as filling in the fuel fill hole... Ive been priming and block sanding on the cab a bit trying to get it ready and put aside so I can move on to other things...
