Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

your project is comming along great .....where did you find the aluminum inserts for rear doors ? ive been looking for a pair...

want to complement you on your decision to keep and redo your seats ,keeping it a true 3+3 instead of stuffing four oversized nasty looking bucket seats out of a dodge caravan or some crap like that

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

Well thank you! I did score the rear inserts new and they are factory NOS pieces. Funny thing is, the person who packaged them taped them face to face with nothing between them and one of them got a small scratch in the chrome, so they sent me a brand new pair for free which I am lucky they had 2 sets...now I have two pair (one pair slightly damaged but they didn't want them back...) so I'll probably hang on to them "just in case".

Nice!

I had a pair of 10's in a box I built behind the seat of my regular cab. It fit tight with the seat all the way back. I tried to put it in my CCSB and found out that the crew rear seat sits back farther so it wouldn't fit.

Your interior is going to be amazing when done!!
I agree with AntiGov! Very classy move doing the stock benches up like you did!!
Stock looks but much more luxurious!!

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

I never realized it but yes, the CC rear seat has less room behind it. Thank God for shallow subwoofers! the JL Audio 13.5" should be sufficient for my style!

The whole point to this project has been to make it unique, but stock"ish" for the most part. Once the interior is done, I'm already waiting to do the SRW swap, lift kit/suspension and 4L80E swap! It's going to be a fun and busy Spring for me! I hope to be ready for paint and body work by May/June...I am going to need some photoshop help to get the color scheme nailed down...

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

I bought the last 3 inserts (same insert or both sides) they had when they had to send the two replacement inserts. I figured I may need them one day and since the driver side front insert is literally non-existent in NOS status, I wanted spares...

This guy ^^^^!

What's going on man? I like seeing TBSS guys that like the Square body trucks!

It's crazy, I still remember the day we started the site! Now we are "OG's" and I'm a well respected vendor, TOTM winner, 10,000 posts, and we effectively killed all the other TBSS sites! All owned by a road cone humping NorCal cross dresser!

The only thing that would make this project better is the loss of 2 cylinders!

The only diesel this truck would ever see is an LBZ Duramax with a 6-speed Ally...

I gues I am waiting for faith in PPE...they claim they have the ability to clean an LBZ/6-speed harness down to the essentials so I don't have to run the dash and steering column from the donor truck. There are a bunch of little hurdles that make that project add up to a big possible nightmare...I'll finish the rest of the truck and then see how I feel...

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

I love the LBZ, we've got two of them on stock turbos turning near 600rwhp numbers...The one fully built LLY on a GT4088R is making 772rwhp/1550tq and these are completely daily driveable and still getting north of 19mpg on the highway...I have faith that we can make it brutally powerful, I just need to get the wiring and other engineering tid bits taken care of...

EFI Live is great isn't it? It can be done. Just takes time and money. Mainly time and a few schematics.

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

The upholstery was done at a local shop that does all my biddy's mom's interior design business upholstery work.

The last of the various interior pieces will be here tomorrow and the 5th bulk pack of Dynamat Extreme is ready to go in!

Oh ya, looky here...

Trevor at WFO Concepts called tonight and told me the HD ribbed 14BFF is done and sitting on the rack waiting for me. I have to find time to get over to Auburn and have that and the whole crossover steering system done and suspension lift finished...Once done, we can measure for the Bilsteins...

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

I'm curious how much quieter your rig will be now. My buddy did his 06 dodge crew cab and there wasn't a real huge difference. He did every square inch besides the windows. He had a lot of money in it for the little difference it made. I hope yours is a better out come.

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

The difference is the newer trucks are built with more sound proofing both in the carpet/pad and the structural design of the metal. I have had great luck with the square bodies and the Dynamat when combined with a good undercoating.

I'll be using the same size tire on my K5... Keep us updated on the Bilsteins... I wanted to use 5150s and some people were trying to talk me out of them...
