Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

Well I'm trying to do whatever I can and see where it takes me before I decide to rebuild the trans or anything like that. Called the shop and asked how much to rebuild 3/4 and check the entire trans and they said 600 for a soft build and metal discs instead of paper, and that's if they don't find anything else wrong, so then I asked about rebuilding the 350 and they said 1000... So if I'm going to have to spend 600-1000 on a trans is rather spend 1200-1600 on a 5.3/4l60 combo

Don't forget the 5.3 conversion will cost more with exhaust etc....

Rick, a 700r isn't that hard to rebuild... there are some good books that will walk you through it step by step. there are only a few special tools you need, and you can find those on sleebay for dirt cheap and discounted.

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

Well I've been going over rebuild videos and doesn't seem to hard, I feel more then capable of doing the job, but with that being said, if I replaces the 3/4 clutch packs and that trans fails on me again or it doesn't work after I did everything I was supposed to the way I was supposed to.... I'm gonna be livid. I'm leaning towards putting my th350 back in, only this time with a new filter and all new fluid, vacuum modulator and even entertaining the idea of a shift kit/shift improver, if I do get a shift kit for the th350 then which one would you guys recommend?

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

Well Nate it's is pretty fun at times but with how I change my mind quite often and parts/components not performing the way i would like them too, it sure makes for a lot of work. I'm probably not doing a good job at building the truck much less sticking with an idea and managing this build thread really well. I realize I'm probably "all over the place" with this build, and for that I decided I should just build what I want and enjoy the truck. I'm not really going to keep this build thread up anymore as it's pretty messy so to speak. But I will keep an eye and comment here and there on the great builds on this site. Hope everybody will have a killer year with your c10's!

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

The 67 still gets some love. New blower motor for the heater/AC and I managed to get this bedside bought. I checked this thing inside and out and from what I can see it seems to be very straight minus the the rear below the body line and the lower front portion in front of the wheel is tweaked from sitting without the support keeping it in place, I have managed to hammer and dolly that area back fairly nice.

I had seen it a couple times but I didn't think it would be straight, and finally the other night my friend was on craigslist and he told me I should at least check it out so now here I am haha

I'm enjoying driving it like I always do but I wish it was my daily so I could really get on it and do big things to it but I guess I'll have to wait for the right time. At least I can find better sheet metal to put on it and improve the truck in that way

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

The more I look at it and feel it out the better I realize it is. I Started hammer and dolly work and it came out pretty good (below the bedside in front of the wheel) the rear portion of the bed below the body line I'm going to try a trick Ive seen, hopefully it works, if so then I won't need to get the stud gun and slide hammer out and might not even need any bondo. Going to try and get the bed as straight as I can and then shoot some black and redrill the trim holes... I tell us it seems like every 67 short fleet bed I see or get has the side trim holes welded up and I keep drilling them right back lol... Oh and I still need to get some side trim for over the wheel and in front as the ones on the truck now are beat along with the bedside.

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

Well I'm finally getting around to putting the new bedside on, shot some black onto the new side and started re-drilling all the side trim holes that previous owners filled in and drilled the holes for the taillight trim, I'm guessing that bedside belonged to a base model c10 that just happened to be optioned with side trim as there were no holes for taillight trim, but nonetheless Ive got those holes drilled and the trim on. Couple things, the drivers side taillight lense cracked on me as I went to tighten it down, which is weird I have installed these taillight lenses many many times the same way every time and I never applied too much force to crack one.... But I guess this one just gave up, and I think it's time for a valve adjustment on the 383, since the motor has been put together and it's been running for awhile I think it's surely broken in enough and ready for some adjustment. Going to adjust the valves and adjust the carb a bit and see if it runs a bit nicer. Anyways here's the old bedside

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

Haha well new bedside is on and I've got all the trim installed as well as the holes drilled for the spare tire carrier. Also adjusted the valves.... And there's no difference... What I did notice is when I drove back up to my house (I live in the hills at a little higher elevation then the Central Valley) and it runs smoother and doesn't backfire or pop much at all, so I'm gonna pull things apart and check something's before I do anything drastic, hoping it's something small. Here's a shot of the bedside and trim on

Yeah man that new bedside is way nicer than the old one for sure, now if only there was a way to keep people from crashing into it...

Re: 1967 Chevy CST aka "the loud truck"

Well after seeing the front driver fender pretty nasty and still having the old PO paint underneath I figured it was time to strip it to bare metal and put one coat of paint on it like I've done to the rest of the truck (minus the roof) so I figured while I already have the front bumper off because I installed the Porterbuilt radiator support crossmember I took the fender off as well and stripped it
