Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!

I decided on the lower arm Caster mod to get a better positive angle and also reduce some of the negative camber once dropped. I took out and moved the ball joint in 1/2" and moved it forward until I had 5deg of positive Caster. I also took out some ball joint angle (10deg) so they wouldn't bind when slammed. You can see in the pics the difference between the two since I compared and did them one at a time.

Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!

Before and after 10 deg angle out. I put new ball joints and cross shafts in and a coat of por 15 on them. Even had my daughter come out to help clean them after. (she wanted to use the vacuum???) lol

Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!

I had to finish up the upper arms to match the lowers so I took out the same degree by putting a slice into them and bending them down. It worked pretty good now I can drop the front right down onto the control arms with no binding!

First pic is with a 1" block holding the suspension up (mock up bump stop) and the 2nd 3rd pics are front on the ground! Last pic is a-arms welded up, new ball joints, cross shafts, tie rod ends to see how it all fits!

Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!

Great progress.
I love seeing the work that goes into making these trucks sit low.
Are the cups in the lwr control arms necessary for an airbag install or purely to get the truck as low as possible?

Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!

Thanks Aus69c20
The cups are just to get a extra few inches of drop. Most airbag kits come with a flat plate that sits on the control arm for the bag to rest on or aftermarket arms have that drop built into them.

Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!

I have finally decided on the motor! After debating to just slap in my 350 (burn victim motor) or go modern and run a 5.3 or 6.0L I've decided to go old school 454! I'm seeing way to many ls conversions these days and i figured a old school short box big block would be cool! Ive been looking for all of the above motors for a little while now but nothing has really caught my eye until last week! A 1975 454/400 out of all things a 75 Chevelle! Owner says its got 80,xxx original miles ran great when pulled out car was sent to the shredder about 3 years ago etc etc....
It didn't really matter to me as it matched the patina look and was old school orange and was complete carb to pan! If it ran that would be a bonus since I'm going to go through it anyway. So i hopped in the truck drove 8hrs dropped it onto the trailer (nearly crushed my trailer) and drove the 8hrs back! Now that was a long day

Lol Yes i will keep you up to date on the overhaul! I thought about doing a Retro roller but I'm not sure i want to go that route? I might just match up a cam to my combo with a nice lope at idle and some good tire burning torque!?!?

Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!

Fired up the motor today on the floor since it was bugging me and i had to know if it runs! I changed the oil and filter (since i had no idea what was in there) I had some distributor troubles at first but once that was resolved IT RAN GREAT!!!! Fired up ran nice and smooth with 60psi oil press. I kept the valve covers off to see everything work and it looked good! Did a compression test right after and all cyls are within 5 pounds of each other! Im pretty happy with that so my boy and i mocked the motor up to see how it fits with the 73+ mounts.

Looks as though you need a c10. That would have fit the boxes easier.

I Pulled the lower half of the mount ( part that bolts to the frame ) off a 75 chevy 1/2 ton that had a small block. It bolted right up to my 67 frame, and I used the rubber and the clamshell mount off a 1975 3/4 ton big block truck. It all fit together pretty good so far!

This is one of my favorite builds, it's turning out great! I'm planning on doing a lot of the same mods and your thread is a great reference.

Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!

Well not to much to report on the truck lately. I did get in my headers and now I can finish mocking up a few things. Since I can't have the headers hanging lower than the frame I went with a set of Chevelle Mid length headers. I had to trim and notch the passenger side frame rail to make that side fit but other than that They fit great! I also picked up a set of flowmaster ball sockets as i plan to cut the collectors off the headers and weld them on to eliminate possible collector flange leaks.
