Sweet build!
I have had a lot of the same ideas for my 74 GMC.

If you want another fire lit under you, check out the roadster shops C-10 video on youtube.

oh yah! i still have this project. just kidding, waiting for the new frame rails to be done. have a company outside the la area bending up 2x5x.120 framerails. i piece, induction bent, no distortion. they will have the 3" raise in the back like i did to mine + the front x member area will be raised 1" too. they will be bent both directions easy and hard. two rails will weigh 161lb also. working on doing a bolt in chassis for the road race crowd. i will keep you posted. have cad drawings of frame rails but dont want to post them till they materialize. working on the suburban, the landing is alot closer!

Curious as to why you decided in the need for the new/different rails?

The tube frame rails and fab method will make this thing much more rigid and less prone to failure. Good choice to make the upgrade.

Can't wait to see this truck hit the road.

Re: 68 pro touring, auto cross c10 (mid life crisis)

4 months later the shop got back to me and could not do it. i am back on it with another shop. multi piece and a perimeter style frame. i have a cab under the knife right now pulling the roof skin and the inner tin around the back window. hidden cage? in the dessert trucks we cut out the windshield post and fit the 1 3/4" into it. i have a few hours of measuring and cutting already. i need to figure out how race/daily driver i want to go at this point. big hp, big brakes , big suspension, how much big safety do i add? i am on the fence to gut my extra cab and build a unibody cab, frame, hidden cage and everything bolt on like stock. i know its not a hauler anymore. but i need to keep it sellable.

Re: 68 pro touring, auto cross c10 (mid life crisis)

I have to say you had my full attention with what you where doing with the frame mods. Your original plan was my idea of taking a daily driver to the limit. I would love to see it finished. The whole manufactured perimeter frame rails is in another relm. Cool, but!!!!! Completely takes away from the time you put into the new floor pan and the factory rivet idea of looking like it rolled off the line. There i said it. Dont hate me, just loved the orignal plan.

Re: 68 pro touring, auto cross c10 (mid life crisis)

What makes what you where doing so special is that it was original and as far as frame mods go, cheap. And you taught all of us something, that alot of people can do themselves. Not everyone, but alot of home builders. Its not a two, three, or four thousand mail order bolt in mod. Your engineering lives up to the saying keep it simple. So come on finish it, sell it, make a bunch of money. Then build the bad full race truck and teach us all over again.
I know how it is to change direction mid way through a project. Then have a lot of parts left over from starting plan. When your all done its like, i need to build another truck to use all these parts. lol

Re: 68 pro touring, auto cross c10 (mid life crisis)

Hows the cage looking? Before putting roof skin back on try you a sheet of your favorite sound deadener between inner and outer. Makes a huge difference.

I read this differently. Sounded like you had an idea for a new part, out in the near future. Meaning you were getting back on the build.

Take it from someone with a couple too many projects. Parting it out and selling is almost as much work as just continuing to build it. The simple solution is to just finish one of the projects, so you can move on to the next. I had the impression this build was one you thought long and hard on and seems a shame to back out now. Any regrets if it's gone later?
