Re: My 52 GMC Build

Today I finished up putting in my mock up drive shaft. I used the front and rear section of the cube vans two drive shafts to make one. Now I can get one made. I used some 6" tube for the frame notch. Also got the E brake peddle in place, once I figured where I wanted it.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Well after getting my e brakes hooked up with my universal cables that work great. Also hooking up my shifter cable. I decided to see if my electronically controlled trans had any gears with no computer. So I put it in gear and pulled it out of the shop slowly (no real brakes). Then put some blocks on front of the wheels and did a burn out I'll get a vid this weekend.
Today I picked up all my steering components and shocks.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Well I got the gas tank filler neck welded in the fuel tank. Then pressure tested to 10 psi all good. Holes drilled and I'm ready to put the tank in. Just working on mounting my filters and pump then bolt tank in. Also got the brake peddle mounted.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Made up some stainless brackets to hold my fuel filters, water separator and electric pump. Also got tank mounted, all looks good back there. Then got my new front tires mounted. They are sexy.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Thanks. Gas peddle came out of the donor ford cube van. The 2 brake peddles and steering column came out of a mid '80's gm motor home (van front end).

Re: My 52 GMC Build

So Friday I picked up trans cooler. Today I figured out where under the bed it's going. Not ideal but I have no more room up front and limited out back, but it will work just fine. The box says recommended for transmission, fuel, power steering. Fuel? Does any one know why you would need a cooler like this for fuel? Also got my new mirrors installed. I went with the 5x7 mirror because I will be towing with the truck and want to see.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

With big high out put mechanical fuel pumps, the fuel temps can get crazy hot in a competition truck. I've seen guys that hot lap a lot install fuel coolers to help the fuel system live longer. It's cheap insurance for them when they have $5k or more in their fuel system.

Here is a vid of a small burn out I did before I mounted the fuel pump in the back. Afterwards I realized that I was in 3rd gear. I hope link works.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Well after a bunch of other fun commitments and off roading holidays. I got back in the garage last night. Made the drive shaft hoop for the front of the shaft. Nothing fancy but good and strong. Then started covering in the transmission hump.

Thanks. That tubing in the cab is 1x1 tube. I figure the truck will weigh around 5000lb. We will see.

lower50's, Hi neighbour!

I'm usually on the 60-66 forum, but I noticed you're in Kitchener so I wanted to check out what you're working on.

I'm super impressed with your truck! It seems really well thought out... with the diesel and everything. And lots of fab work! I'm tuned in to see what's next...
