If you have kids, just tell them they won't be going to college.

My friend, we never throw something out. We just loose our butts when we sell the used parts that did not make us happy.

^ That should be a sign in every one of our garages. You always think it, but to see it in print makes it... well... worse. Maybe if we have to look at it everyday, it would remind us to research and plan 10 times, buy once kind of thing.

I would say to start a thread on past motor/drivetrain combos that yall are tallying up (Just to put racing into real perspective) but Im afraid that if we did, that would be several badly depressed and angry board members and this place may never be the same

all I'll say is I made just a titch under 800 at the flywheel n/a single carburated small block on a SuperFlo engine dyno, with a cam that has just a little more than the 0.050" duration of the Edelbrock 2201,,

Edelbrock: 234/238 @ 0.050",,

the cam in my Nova : 250ish/ 260ish at 0.050"

well except mines .81 lift with a custom set of Jessel 1.7 / 1.8:1 shaft rockers for the Allpro 245 Rased runner heads,,, flowing 370ish

Your cam, my heads and I'm sure you can make your 500 RWHP

as a FYI heads and valve train ran me just over $9k

That's what were getting at C20
If the cam is "just fine" whatever HP number you end up with will have to be 'just fine' also.

Building a combination around an existing component (unless it's the heads) is quite counter productive to the budget. But so be it.

Choose a fuel spec, and choose a budget and then we could offer some realistic help on your combination
Guys I'm going to run this cam first then upgrade and tweak in the future. And I totally agree that most of the money needs to be spent on the heads/valve train.

Re: Building a true 500hp SBC

I have a similar cam to Marv's now with .745/.748 lift 1.7 rockers with a smaller ( in comparison to 245 Allpros) 220 AFR comp port . Real world calculator shows 566 for this combo to achieve the et at my weight .I still have a dyno session coming up and can give those numbers . Heads=power That is why the LS stuff is so good . Factory heads flow good .

Re: Building a true 500hp SBC

Marv do not forget his stock block. Large jump in hp with a sold ring seal. Only way to get that is a block that is not moving around.. Not being a dick just straight forward to the guy. I only went through two blocks before I bought the dart block ,

Me I would would not worry if the engine only made 450 HP but had a MASSIVE tq curve. But hey I am looking at a new 454 LSX set up already .. ARGGGGG Super I do not want to hear it.. Really I dont... Hey C10 I have a great dart block SBC that makes well over your goal.. tuned running ready to go built with high dollar stuff. I might get 50% return on it.

Re: Building a true 500hp SBC

The 57 goes in for dyno and tune tomorrow to see its #'s. PO said the 350 was built for 500hp 13 years ago. Guess we'll see how close it is. I don't know internal specs, just external but will have a better idea tomorrow and will post up results. Even 400 would be nice and haul ass though.

Re: Building a true 500hp SBC

Why not throw some aluminum heads on it and boost it? You can run 500hp very easily while running pump gas. That's my 2 cents...
