I would go forward with the C10 LCA and C10 ball joints. I don’t know how readily available C20 ball joints are at a local parts store nor know how much they would run you if they should fail. I have a 62 and that was one of the driving reasons for converting my front to something newer... price and convenience ...just MHO.

3/4 ton ball joints for an 85 C20 are $20 and instock at the local autozone.....


Here's the breakdown.

Spindle Conversion route of 3/4 to 1/2 ton:

ECE conversion spindle $269
CPP 6 lug rotors $129 DONE.

Control arm swap

LMC repo lower control arm $300
CPP C10 drop spindles $219
CPP 6 lug rotors $129 DONE.

I'm going with the conversion route for now. Just ordered the conversion spindle from ECE.....

And I do want to say that I've spoken with CPP and ECE in the past two days and ECE does have some nice guys working over in their customer sevice dept. The guys at CPP sounded like they were pissed they had to come to work.

You have a C20 c.member & C20 a-arms in your posession now? If so, swap to an 88-98 lt. duty 3/4 ton disc set-up.

It uses the 88-98 style of spindle which requires a larger BJ pilot hole in the lower a-arm vs. traditional dics swaps using 71-87 parts (which require C10 lower arms). IIRC the required parts breakdown goes like this.....

C-20 lower a-arms (uppers are the same BJ bolt pattern & thus interchangeable)
88-98 spindles (w/brake stuff.... stock or dropped)
88-98 lower BJ
88-98 upper BJ
88-98 6-lug lt-duty 3/4 ton rotors

Guys,

I used CPP parts to convert my 65 C10. The Western brand spindles (87 type) were excellent. The 6 lug rotors I believe are Chinese but they seem to work well. I ordered plane rotors but CPP sent slotted and vented!! I'll take em. One of the tie rod conversion adjusters was wrong but they took care of it.

I had to use 1/4" wafer spacers to get my 15" steel wheels to clear the calipers, but that's OK.

I am very happy with the end result, excellent stopping power.

Part of the never ending saga of old Chevy truck brake upgrades.

I had cpp rotors on my 63 that i sold to another board member, and on my crew i went with 88-up stuff.

Hey TR65, what do you mean wafer spacers? Like a spacer that mounts between the rim and the rotor? Like this?

I have a 64 C10 Fleetside, I installed a front end from an 81 and wanted to keep the six lug wheels. I ordered a set of the 6 lug rotors and they didn't fit. Too deep and too big of bearing on the inner. Come to find out mine is a 1" thick rotor that is 4.69" tall. The 6 lug is 1-1/4" and like 4.95" tall or something. So does anyone know of a 6 lug 1" thick rotor?

No 6-lug rotors for the 1" spindles.
You will need to swap to 1-1/4" spindles and calipers.
And inner bearings, as you know.
