67-72 2wd Burbs Popularity

Maybe its because I have one, but has anyone else noticed how these old people movers are starting to become very popular, and the price is just ratcheting up and up in the past 2 years?

Last year on Hot Rod Power Tour, I think I saw at least 7 of them at the last stop, and I'm sure I missed a few. People are stuffing Duramax drive lines in them, LS swaps, leaving them alone, and the price doesn't change.

Is it just me??

Just you lol There are more finished ones popping up but I find their popularity & prices are still low due to less demand overall. I've had a few & selling them takes a long time compared to a truck.

The price and demand jump hasn't happened yet like it has for the c10's and K5s but it is increasing.

To me they are popping out of the wood work compared to before being used as family haulers on rod/road trips. You can't touch any 2wd pre 72 burb for less than $3k unless it is a pile of junk.

I have been hard core into these for a very long time, and to me they started getting popular around here about 10 years ago.

I know, because when I was driving and restoring mine everyone laughed. So I noticed when people started saying cool! and asking me to sell mine to them.

I find that the people that really appreciate these, are the ones who grew up around them and have families now. So they are interested in them, so that the family can ride along and be involved.

My wife loved our Burb. Plenty of room and if you took it on a trip you didn't have to pack everything in tubs and plastic bags....

There are a bunch of us hot rodders out here starting families and wanting to include them in the cruises and car shows. My wife refused to get an old wagon, I can't get the car seat in my race car, and I finally was able to sell her on the Suburban! They really are cool old trucks. Here in the northeast they hardly exist too. I was given a bunch of smiles, waves and thumbs up just towing mine home!

My first car was a 76 2WD when I was a junior in high school (mid 90s) and I always wished I would've kept it. Had the rad power window in the tailgate.

Fast forward 20 years and the fiancee was pressuring me to get an old Bronco - until I showed her how much a rough-ass Bronco goes for.

Showed her we could get an old 'Burb for a fraction of the cost and as soon as she took a look she was on board. I think people tend to forget that there were Suburbans in the 67-72 body style.

I think it takes some of them being restored before the popularity increases, people need to see them fixed up to be able to visualize them as anything other than a big old P.O.S.

Burb prices are lower than a short bed. And they have been moving up in price I believe. I've been looking casually then more steadily the last 6 months. A nice fairly solid looking one with a bit of rust is generally $6,000 and up. And they need all the work done. In the $ 9,000 to $12,000 they are fairly nice stockers and they don't sell. Except for the gold one on Ebay.

In the $15,000 - $18,000 range you start to find really nice ones, lowered properly, nice interiors, usually in California and they don't last long. Very few above 20k.

Overall, prices are heading up I think. Good deals are hard to find and they go quick, usually 2,000 miles from me.

I certainly hope the prices are increasing. Appreciation (or at least retention) was one of the biggest reasons I went old-school in my vehicles. However, I now know I paid too much initially and have continued to put some more time & money into it mainly because of the utility it provides the family in addition to the car show appeal and mechanical simplicity. It gets about the same attention as the 68 Camaro did, but not nearly the number of offers. I hope keeping it clean, improvements and keeping it in the show circuits and driving it daily will increase local interest. The biggest negatives I hear are gas mileage and size, but it isn't nearly as big as the newer burbs. And the mpgs...it's a V8 and they don't vary greatly.

It appears the values are increasing where I live. The price of project burbs seems to have doubled the last few years around here. My dad bought his 72 suburban in 2009 for $2,000 did nothing to it and just sold it for $6,000. When he owned it we never wen't anywhere without people asking to buy it, leading me to believe the interest and thus demand is there.
