Road trippin with too much stuff...

Just got back from a 7 state, 3100 mile journey in 7 days.
Got to meet up with some truck guys, hit up some junk yards, and a swap meet in northern texas. Weather was mostly good this year. (didn't get stuck in iowa for 2 1/2 days like last time)...
Away we go...
First hour and a half when i left was black ice... No fun.

First truck i found was an odd combo.

Re: Road trippin with too much stuff...

Had a buddy send me a link to a craigslist ad last fall. Had a different buddy about 4.5 hours away that was close to the item and went and picked it up for me. I grabbed it at his place on my way south. It was kind of part of the road trip, but not purchased on the trip...

Thats all for now, Enjoy and get out there and start finding this stuff! ( i can't find everything by myself...)

Sidewinder Winch, had one of them on my 72 Cheyenne Super SWB 4x4 years ago. Can't recall if I ever used it but it was there.

Stuck! In Iowa? No way...it's always sunny and 70 degrees. Dairy Queen is open at 11am if you need a blizzard, tornado season is is just a windy neighbor, the flood is gone as soon as everyone stops flushing the Casey's burritos, and you can see around every corner as soon as the corn is harvested...

Re: Road trippin with too much stuff...

Wow, it's amazing you can still find that many parts collections out there. That's definitely what keeps our hobby supplied with parts to keep our trucks on the road. Still, I kinda root for some of those in the pics to make it back on the road too!
Looks like another great road trip!

They are. Down south if they don't run, they scrap them. Where i am, they still run but the body is falling off...

My 69 has a power steering box, pump, and brackets that I pulled out of a junkyard 71 or 72 back around 1990. Both still work fine! Also a front sway bar, power brake booster & brackets, and gauges from a complete instrument cluster. Probably didn't pay more than $100 total, if that much, for all that stuff back then.

I still remember jacking up the front of a donor truck with a bumper jack, and pushing old tires/wheels under the frame until it was high enough for me to crawl under the front. Had to use hammer and chisel to get the sway bar. Ah, youth!
I hear ya. Been in some sketchy situations myself pulling parts.

There are still parts out there, but getting tougher all the time.
