my new truck/project...

first of all hello to everyone, I bought this truck about 3weeks ago and started surfing the net to get info on these trucks and luckily I found this one, ive been reading alot and looks like im in the right forum... so i'll be spending plenty of time with you guys on here gathering some info...

came back from picking up my new toy/project...

got it at a damn good deal that I couldnt refuse not to buy it, plus its been one of my wishes to get a classic one day...

its a 1968 c-10, it has a 454 bigblock with a 3 speed built tranny, dont know what the rear end has in it but its a 12-bolt with posi traction.... it will leave skid marks for 50ft or more!! and from a 60mph roll it pulls pretty good, the motor seems to be stock? cant hear a cam or anything, it has new dual exhaust, with some original mufflers so it is very quiet, the motor is real quiet as well, the previous owner installed brake booster pump with all rotors on all four corners, so it brakes very smooth like a new truck, and also installed power steering, so its almost like riding in a cadillac!!! lol... he also put a new gas tank... the truck has very little rust, and most of it is in the bed floor, so the bed floor will be replaced and the whole truck will get primered for the time being until the new drivetrain goes in..... as of now the plans is to install my drivetrain that I have in my 01 into this one... it should be an 11sec n/a truck with that combo..... unless I find another 6.0 then I'll do that so I wont have to take it off my other one... by the way the guy that I bought it from is big time into old school motors, I told him what the plans were for it and he offered me $800 for the 454 whenever I took it out plus he told me he'll give me extra for the tranny aswell... but until then its going to sit in the garage for atlest 3months, then the project will start...

Welcome from the Corn State.... Looks like you have a great start there. If you can afford the gas I would leave the 454 in it but thats just my 2¢ worth...

Re: my new truck/project...

What kind of '01 drivetrain will propel a brick into 11 second timeslips?

Unless the answer is Viper or ZO-6, you might have a hard time hitting those times (unless yours is a built , turbo or S/C piece)

But looks like a fun truck -- and welcome to the boards

Welcome all the way from Pearland, TX. Good looking project. I am currently rebuilding my 70' SWB which also has a 454. Nothing beats the sound of an old school big block rumble!

But looks like a fun truck -- and welcome to the boards
this is my 01, its an 2001 ext cab truck, it has a 6.0 out of an 05 yukon denali, with a cam (stock heads), fully bolt on, 3900 converter and 4.11's it runs a best of 12.43 @ 106 on motor and 11.7 on the nitrous and spraying after the 60ft, it also weighs in @ 4760lbs raceweight, that is why I was thinking that the 68' c-10 can run 11's on motor with the same setup? I havent weighed the c-10 yet but im thinking they weight about 3800lbs?

I know that alot of people will think that it is impossible that my ext cab runs those times, but I got plenty of proof and can direct you to a forum that is nothing but 99-up trucks that hot rod their trucks...

Re: my new truck/project...

Hey ap2002, Yeah you really do live around the corner from me (10 minute drive max). I live just a short drive off of Pearland Parkway. Theres another member called gatorbuilt58 I believe, who also lives off of Pearland Parkway. You live way to close for me to not check out that sweet project truck. I have a week off in about a weeks time, I will have to check your ride out if you are available. I wish I could roll over there in my BB 70' but I got bored after work a few months ago and stripped it down to work on it. You and any other members in our area are more than welcome to come by my house and see my project vehicles (54' burb, 55' Bel air, 56' cameo, 72' blazer, 70' SWB BB) of course after seeing pics of your project truck mine look more like parts vehicles than project vehicles.

cool man, if you dont mind pm me your address, I'll drive it over there one of these days,

i ordered some hooker aerochambers for it today from summit, I should be installing them on monday, so I can really hear how a 454 through a real muffler sounds... lol.. the hookers sound real good on the 99-up trucks so I imagine it'll sound good on the 454..

thanks everyone for the warm welcoming...
