Thumbs down new chevy truck design...YUCH!!!

talked to a friend today (chevy salesman)and he said they changed the front look of the 1/2 ton pickups to look like the avalanche.....he said the winged hood look is more appealing to minorities....at first I thought he was just josh'n me but as it turns out, several of the mexican and colored people I work with are in love with it and they drive tricked out hondas and toyotas most of the time but they all want the new chevy.......to me this isn't a truck and GM has sold out and they should not call this vehicle a truck....it's not worthy!!!.....the chevy truck used to be toughness and reliability....now I have no clue what it is....I hope GM gets it's brain back soon and remembers that it's a truck.....DAMN I LOVE MY 72!!!

since when does the front grill determine if a truck is reliable??? So you don't like it, that doesn't mean that nobody else will. I don't think it looks bad. In fact look at an '03 HD and it almost looks mean.

Personally i like it, the new design has been out for quite a while now. Here in Abilene....I think it looks great, and is a plus for people who want to customize their front end...It just like converting to an escalade nose on a 88-98 chevy... i think GM is doing everything right except car and 1500 truck power...The Monte Carlo SS needs at least 300 hp's and they do need to produce that Reg Cab SS and put about 410 in it....
Just my .02

FYI - All the 03 chevy's have the New Front End
Not just the 1/2 tons

Ackattack: U are right on the dot...I never heard anything or experienced anything that led to reliability issues..And you are right the 03 3500 is one mean looking and performing BEAST...
NEW CHEVY TRUCKS RULE
In my opinion...Don't want to start a war

The car companies have to appease the masses or (in my opinion) all trucks would look like ours and all cars would look like 67 chevelles.

btw...what color exactly were these people?

I hate to say this but in my opinion it is the worst looking chevy truck yet. The front clip doesn't go with the rest of the truck. The front fenders stick out to far.

I have not grown to like it yet. I guess it will just take some time for me. One thing I can't stand on the new design is, when standing at the side you can see a huge gap between the hood and grille!! Not good!!

Chevy has come up with new styles in the past, and sometimes it takes some time to
get used to the new concept or style. But Chevy rules, and I am sure the new truck will also become a classic!!
The Escalade front end is of a different breed for sure, But it sure is growing
on me.....

Just another opinion..

i think the salesman has his head up his a**, and everybody is some shade of a color. i'm of the black, african-american, or whatever you choose to call me persuasion. i am just as much french, indian, caucasion, and who knows what else (louisiana, a huge melting pot for centuries). i just call myself an american, and am only offended by the "n" word or facsimiles thereof. i associate myself with trends of enthusiast of my own hobby, and is not ethnically driven. anyway, i find the new chevy fascia hideous, but i kinda like the avalanches. they are similar in appearance but not exact. i would buy a gmc if i was inclined to buy new, but even they took a turn toward the ugly this year, but i along with a lot of other board members are not pleased with the relibaility of the new generation small-blocks, and gm is not as customer friendly as they were in previous years. it will take a long time to upstage the 88-98 body style, and this has been said over and over by a lot of truck lovers and enthusiasts.

I also think that the transition between the front clip area to the cab/bed area is very quickly done and looks like new on old. Personally, i think it looks as bad as a '72 cab/clip with a '01 bed on it. lol

BUT, the world changes around us whether we like it or not. I still love chevys in general (my '71 more than most) and chevy is the only kind of truck i would buy at the moment.

CASE DISMISSED!

Alexis, you're too funny!
Lowfly'a, great approach! I don't consider myself Irish-American either.............I'm an American!
By the way, a seven course meal for an Irishman is a 6 pack and a potatoe!
I hate the looks of the Avalanche, I don't like the looks of the new trucks, but with 6 vehicles already, I guess I don't need another. Hopefully, bu the time I want something new, they will have changed again (to something I like)

I agree, IMO the avalanche and the new trucks are the ugliest ones yet... The GMC's on the other hand are not that bad. Don't see how they would appeal to those cultures(the ones he mentioned) I don't know what Chevy was thinking with that front end, and yes I think the frontend ruins the whole truck.

I havent heard anyone use the word "colored" to refer to another person since I was a kid in Alabama. It was just after I heard the word " Darkie " used for the last time. Soon afterward it became fashionable for those of "color" to beat the crap out of you if you used language such as that in their presence. Cant blame them I guess.

i dont really like the new face on the chevys. i didnt realy like the 99-02 either, thought gmc front was better in those years, and i can say that the fiberglass on the stepside beds is paper thin, BUT the HD is bad ass loking, are they chaning thttoo? that suck if they do. if i ever buy new truck it wil only be a chevy though. have yall seen the tundra stepsides? hideous. chevy shouldbe the only company allowed to make stepsides, everyone else fks it up too much.

do yall notice all the ads for new chevy's with a 67-72 in them? maybe they're trying to compare since i guess 67-72's are known for quality or something like that

I haven't decided whether I like them yet or not. Give me 25 or 30 years and I'll let you know.

I think it's just as bad/good as the 99-02. and i think that those look pretty good.

i think the GMCs look a lot worse now, though.

Mike....I agree whole heartedly! You use that kind of language around here, and you can bet your sweet a$$ someone is gonna "tote an a$$whuppin."

I am from Alabama, born and raised here, and that type of language bothers me immensely. I am very proud of my Southern Heritage, but not necessarily proud of how the older generations treated other people. I guess my anger and contempt stems from the fact that every time you turn on the TV or go to the movies, WE, as Southerners, are STILL portrayed as bigots and racists. The truth of the matter is there are REDNECKS and IDIOTS all over the country....as the original poster made that point very clear by using the type word he used to describe people of African-American descent.

I think an apology is appropriate ... I can't speak for other board memebers ...but I, for one, am offended.

Rant Over!

I still want to know what the Engineers over at GM has been smoking because I want some!! I like the avalanche when it comes to the fact that you can have it seat 5 - 6 people in it and then switch it to look similar to a truck and have some bed space but the Front End Looks FUGLY.. Same as how the 03 Trucks are. I still prefer 67 - 72 chevy trucks over any newer Chev/GMC truck but I like 88 - 98 Body style over 99 - 03 style!! This is just my opinion!! I just hope GM will change the front end back to the way 99 - 02 since these trucks looked damn good!!

thanks

thank you, shane, mikep and rayville, i applaud your insight, and am glad to see as southerners we can stand together and recognize that we are blamed for all the bigotry, but it crosses all geographical boundaries. i love auto enthusiasts, people that can talk the talk and burn the tires (period). we can only hope that gm will come back to their senses and build on customer interest and stop trying to be "cutting edge" to the point of being perceived as design idiots (pontiac - aztec)
