6 Lug Disc brake swap

I just rebuilt my 69 Chev suspension drum brake with 2" notched lower a-arms and dropped spring all around.

Has anyone done a 6 lug disc brake conversion using factory parts. I see a lot of the later model 6 lug wheels around but can't seem to find out what truck years and models they came off of.

I just picked up a set of 71 disc spindles and am thinking about using adaptor bearings with the later rotors. I will use a reamer to make the disc spindles fit my drum ball joints.

Also want to use some 2 or 4 piston calipers, the stock 1 piston units seem a little less than perfect since they are the same ones used on a 6cyl Nova.

Any part of this puzzle helps. Thanks.

Re: 6 Lug Disc brake swap

Ya i just did the same swap. I ordered 6 lug discs from cpp. The only thing i can remember is the width of the rotors.. Something like heavy duty and 1.25"
They werent bad price also.

Re: 6 Lug Disc brake swap

If you want to use OEM parts for the 6 lug disc brake swap, look in this thread for info on that.....http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ght=disc+brake

If you want to use the '71 spindles, you cannot use the later model rotors, they're close, but not close enough. You'll have to buy the aftermarket 6 lug rotors for the '71-'87 spindles. And don't ream the spindles, just change the ball joints.

There's really nothing wrong with the D52 calipers. They are available in 2 different piston sizes also. If you're set on a 2 piston caliper, Wilwood makes direct replacement dual piston D52's. They can be seen in the 'Vendor Marketplace' in my Astro rotor with D52 caliper disc brake brackets thread here on the board.

Here's that thread....

That link is broken. What years used a 6 lug rotor?

Re: 6 Lug Disc brake swap

IF you use the 71 disc spindle, you will have to get the 6 lug rotors from someplace like CPP. There are no factory 6 lug rotors that fit that year spindle.

If you want to use factory parts, there LD 88 up 3/4 ton trucks used 6 lug discs in the front. You would need to use the spindles for that year and a lower control arm from a 67-71 3/4 ton truck so that the later model lower ball joint would fit. There is a thread about this swap in the 60-66 section.
