Any Difference between wood and metal floor

I am wanting to go to a wood bed floor from a metal floor on my 67. Is there any difference on the cross braces from a wood floor and a metal floor. The wood would be thicker than the metal that is what has me wondering about the height of the bed when it is on the truck. Thanks

I think there are differences, as you suggested. Have you looked at anyones' catalog on-line, like LMC? I like their catalog for the illustrations they use. Check it out at www.lmctruck.com.

I'm sure there are others on here who have done what you want to do.

Re: Any Difference between wood and metal floor

A metal floor has built in cross braces on the floor while a wood floor has seperate braces. the overall height is the same. As far as sheetmetal, the headgate is different.

You would need to change the bed cross sills, rear cross sills, and the front bed panel.

Re: Any Difference between wood and metal floor

I thought people made kits to put wood bed floors over existing metal ones, but a google search came up with this:

Bruce Horkey is the one who makes a kit to lay in over a steel bed floor.
It's just a lay in kit not a conversion.

Re: Any Difference between wood and metal floor

About 5 months ago i have found and bought both compleate bed sides and all the cross supports. And i didnt know at the time untill yesterday that they were possibly for a wood bed. So i might be in good shape other than the front panel. What is the difference to look at to find one or can i modify my orignal one.
