Project#2=1972

We are almost finished up with "A Tribute To Nate"....We were lucky enough to find a 1972 that is about 95% original. We will begin restoring this one as soon as we are done with the 69. I would like to get some opinions from other 67-72 truck enthusiatsts. We are stariting to get a list of all the parts we need for the truck. One thing that we are not sure is if we should return the truck back 100% to its original condition, including paint color. The original color was Medium Bronze Iridescent (paint code 522) white a white top and Parchment(off white) interior. Here are some pictures....Let us know what you think....

That's a good looking truck! I myself was never to fond of the bronze C10's but with the white top, it's not so bad. Since the truck is still almost all orginal and appears to be all there, I personally would go back to original. All in all, I like it a lot, solid start on a resto.

We did a spray out yesterday. It looks a lot like the newer corvette orange. It has quite a bit of metallic in it. I prefer solid colors..

I would stay original with the addition of a rear chrome bumper and a set of factory hub caps.

As close to original as the truck already is, I would stay original. Changing paint colors will require a great deal more effort and will not affect the overal value of the truck in a positive manner once its finished (provided you are staying original otherwise). You have an excellent start already - and I think you might be surprised how nice that old truck will look with the paint put back the way it was new - only better with 2 stage paint.

Why do you say "Parchment(off white) interior". Mine is Parchment but I don't think it's "off white", just white.

Thank you all once again for your input....I say Parchment(off white) because we chose to go with white interior on the 69 that we are building and after purchasing some of the parchment pieces they were not true white as we wanted.

^ Sorry I jumped the gun a little by asking that question above. I have what appears to be different shades of white in my truck. The visors are White. The door panels are an Ivory I guess (color sheet mentions "Ivory" for interior). Plastic that hold seat belts, visors and rear-view mirror are a yellowish white (a GM white?). I went and had the auto store make up "Ivory" with a dash of White to brighten it and I'll paint everything a similar color. I now think Parchment is a word used to describe a array of whites for our trucks. You're lucky you don't have "Sandalwood" like me, to try and match We worked for at least an hour to get a good color.

It is kind of confusing because all the different aftermarket companies call it a different color.

But you are right - because "Ivory" is an off-white. I agree - and, for paint, the manufacturer of the paint itself called it one thing, then the truck manufacturer called the same thing something else.

Example:
Paint Code: Copper Polly
GM/Chevy called it: Med. Bronze

Bronze and Copper aren't the same thing are they?!

I would stay original with a truck that complete.The bronze actually looks really good when it's fresh and not all faded.The "Parchment" or white interiors didn't match anymore than any other color.4o years ago the dyes and such weren't a pure match.40 years of aging/yellowing hasn't helped any.I don't think any of the colors repoed for interiors match that well.I doubt they matched dye lots then or now and the slight difference in materials used both times affects how the part takes color.JMHO

Thanks for the input, we are likely going to just restore this one back to original. The only thing really "wrong" with this truck is the hacked up wiring here and there, so it should be pretty straight forward. It's great having one so original to use as a reference for future builds. We have taken many pictures so that we know how it was built originally. Most of these trucks have been rebuilt a couple of times and each time whoever built it modified things in their own way making it difficult to know how it was supposed to be. As far as the interior color, it is impossible to get reproduction or original parts that all match in color, so we will likely dye all pieces to match.(yes I know this isn't technically correct because they didn't match originally, but it sure looks nice when they do.)

Wonder if it has any history behind it? My truck was pinstriped by a guy that Don Johnson (the actor) hired to paint dolphins on his yacht/speed boat - back when Don was on the TV show Miami Vice. I think of all the pinstripe work done to my truck, I'm leaving the glove box alone. It reminds me of the Firebird from the Ponitac's (hood) back when.
