Just picked this up and wanted to verify the years it was used. Is this 73-74? Any other years? It does not have the notch for quick removal. I don't think this gate is reproduced, is it? Appears to be nos or a take off that someone put some paint on. No bow at all. Is it worth $250? I know if it was 67-72 it would be $5-600. Thanks for any info, Eric

That has to be the rarest of all square body tailgates, especially with all the holes for the upper trim level. I dont think those are even being repoped.

That's definitely a 73-74 gate. I had one on my truck until the bed was changed in '86.

Is there any chance that you could pull some measurements for placement of those GMC letters?

I'm looking to put GMC letters on my '86 gate, but I don't have the dimensions for the stock mounting holes.

73/74 gate, rare...really rare. Too bad it is missing the band and emblem. I sold one here on the board, perfect shape including the band and emblem. I got 400 for it, which I thought was a good deal for the buyer considering the rarity.

73/74 Chevy gates are nowhere near as desireable or as rare as the GMC, and do not have the upper emblem.

Yes that is a very hard gate to find in good condition. Here is the one I bought from Jeff. It shows the letters and the band.

Some did not have the trim though. Here is my other 73 gmc. It does not have all of the trim and it still looks good with painted letters.

so the 73-74 Chevy AND GMC gates are the only ones that have those tabs as seen in picture 4?
I just picked one up for my 77 and realized Id either have to cut slots in the bed or remove those "tangs" that look like they help keep the bed walls from spreading when the gate is closed. I only got the tailgate cause its perfect with no dents or dings

What's a stepside tailgate worth then? Lol, I have a 1972 Chevy stepside short box I'm placing a 1972 gmc long box stepside tailgate onto. Be a shame to just let the Chevy gate rust in the shed......

my 76 has the tangs so maybe 77 they did away with them, see pic for how they look when gate closed.
