Rusbuilt's 68 C-10

Hello guys, I'd like to introduce you to my very first Chevrolet! A few weeks ago I bought this 68 C-10 short bed of craigslist here in Nashville. It has a 327 with a 350 turbo automatic. The body is pretty straight but the cab is rusted pretty bad and the interior is rough. However the guy I bought it from said the engine and trans only had about 10k miles on it, oh and it was open headers too. Here are a few pictures the day I got it home.

The worst part of the cab was the inner roof panel. The roof seam had rusted in a few small spots and the seam sealer was missing so it rotted the entire inner roof panel along the front windshield. So I used a wire brush to clean the seam and resealed it so it won't leak, although I don't plan on using this cab for my build.

Now on to my build plans. I really want/need a truck to use to haul materials for my construction business. So I plan to prime the entire truck black and just clean it up the best I can so I can use it some for now. In the mean time I bought another cab to start my build. It has some rough spots but the price was right so I couldn't pass it up. I also bought a set of door panels a brake booster (which I will add asap) a 70 model front grille and drivers fender (in need of a good passenger fender) because I plan to run the 70 front end.

I spent a little time raising the seats and actually mounting them as the previous owner just had them sitting in the cab. I have been looking for a good bench seat to recover that I will put in the new cab but I guess these will do the job for now. Also before I bought the extra cab and door panels yesterday I had already made some wooden ones which I'll leave in this cab and use the metal ones for the cab I'm building.

I plan to spend a lot of time on this thing this summer once I have the extra cab complete I will tear the truck down to complete the project.

plans include:
5.3 swap with 4l60e
5 lug with 4 wheel disk breaks
relocate the gas tank
lowered 3/4
power steering
hot rod air conditioning
70 front end
and some minor custom interior work

Re: Rusbuilt's 68 C-10

I've decided not to use the 70 model front end, I'm just gonna stick with the 68. I'll prob sell the fender and grille I have once I'm allowed to sell things on here. lol

Re: Rusbuilt's 68 C-10

Thanks, I will. I really want to use this truck a lot so I don't plan on going to the extreme that some of you guys go. Although I do love the look of these trucks with air bags its just not functional for what I need.

In for the build. I like a nice driver build as well! Good idea with the extra cab and sealing up the current one for now...

Thanks. It seems to me that most guys on here spend most of their time on the cab, I think I can get it all ready before I tear down the entire truck. And by ready I mean finished cab with air, painted and all!

Re: Rusbuilt's 68 C-10

I worked on the Chevy today. I installed the brake booster, power steering pump, power steering gear box and new (used) radiator. Unfortunately my new radiator has a small pin hole in it!! boo! I guess I'll try and solder it this week.

Looks good Rus. I like the new alt bracket setup. I'll keep an eye on your progress. If you can't patch that hole in the radiator I'll refund your $. Your other cab looks pretty good.

Thanks Chuck, I know I can patch up that hole. The cab is great all except for the top on the drivers side. It needs some work but I can just fix it a little at a time. Thanks again for all the parts!
