Re: 71 suburban 3dr Doors are stuck shut?

Hiya neighbor! See your in Everett!!! If that is Everett, Wa. I had a problem with my 72 c20 that the drivers side wouldn't open an come to find out the previous owner did a shotty repair of the upper door hinge.

try while pressing the door handle button to push the door in an up or picking on the door to see if you can open it.

If your in the area an need any help PM me alright an glad to meet up! Got a few members of the board local here so your not alone.

Does the inside lock button move up and down on both doors? You should hear an audible click when the button is pushed down or pulled up. If what 1992 said doesn't work try rolling the windows down and spray the door latch with a good penetrating oil (not WD-40). If you use a good light you can see the door latch down through the window opening... Spray the crap out of it.

Re: 71 suburban 3dr Doors are stuck shut?

Whats the condition of this rig? Has it been sitting for a long period of time?
I am just wondering if the weather stripping has become glued to the doors.

Can you tell if the weatherstripping is good, maybe push on it to see if it is sticking to the painted surfaces on the doors?

If it was mine, I'd roll down the window, have someone hold the release button/lever and then place a nice kick from the inside, near the latch/jam area.

Re: 71 suburban 3dr Doors are stuck shut?

Won't hurt to pull/push good and hard, unless the door is really rusty and weak. If everything inside the door feels like it's working, I don't know what could be holding it that a good firm effort won't undo.

I just removed some parts from a '69 Suburban over at the salvage yard. The doors wouldn't open on it but it was because the hinges were rusted solid. I finally got them open with a pry bar but the body was toast anyway...

You could always pull the fender and unbolt the door hinges. Hard way to do it but give you plenty of work space.
