Clutch & Throw out bearing issue

1971 C 10 came with 250 (6) cyl and Three speed
Changed to 327 High dome clutch and Muncie (4) speed
Issue is the long throw out bearing is too long and the Throw out bearing supplied with the clutch does not reach the fingers on the high dome clutch whne I depress the clutch pedal!
We have a very good clutch and drive line house here in Fort Wayne (Where i bought the clutch) that insist if the bell housing and clutch fork are stock the short bearing is correct. I don't seem to have enough throw to engage the clutch.
Is there an intermediate bearing length , (clutch house says NO) or do I need a different fork?
HELP! I don't want to pull this transmission a third time!

Are you at the end of the adjustment on the clutch rod? Are you sure all of the parts are installed? Make sure you have part #3 in the picture below installed.

Re: Clutch & Throw out bearing issue

Yes I have that installed. I think I have a deck height issue.

Re: Clutch & Throw out bearing issue

What cross link do you have in place...the original 6 cylinder one or a V8 one?

There is also a difference in the clutch down rods from pedal to cross bar...also, where did you mount the cross bar on the engine...?

Re: Clutch & Throw out bearing issue

OK We figured out what was happening we thought the fork was running out of travel when in fact the linkage was bending. It was a 5/16" rod with a bend and evidently the high dome pressure plate requires a lot more pressure to depress. To answer your question I made a bracket that mounts to the block so that it would be in line with the mount that the Six cyl. used all good.... but I had to move one of the lever arms because it was direct interference with the headers. I maintained the same angle. Making a new rod out of 1/2" tubing.

I would like to see a Small Block Z bar if you have a picture.

Re: Clutch & Throw out bearing issue

The tube on the V8 Z-Bar is narrower than the L6. Arms are about the same.
On a '71 K/1500 I have, we had to add extra length to the lower clutch push rod. We spliced about 6'' of Squarebody pushrod onto a '71 pushrod with a 3'' section of old gun barrel for a splice reinforcer. We had too short a T/O Bearing and didn't want to drop a Muncie SM 465 and NP205, just to change it out.
Still good, about 18 years later.
