Hopefully this Board fixes my Tach problem

Seen some recent post of the forums here about tachs not reading right cause of HEI's. Couple people mentioned they tried these and it cured their problem. I have a Petronix Distributor in my truck and wrote the seller before I ordered the new board and he said it should work. I will post and let everyone know how it works once installed.

I bought a 6 cylinder board from them and rebuilt a non working 8 cylinder tach with it, for my Green '67. So far it is working good. The only problem I had was removing the mounting studs from the old board and installing in the new one. If I do another one I would figure out something different for that.

I think Andy rebuilt one with one of their boards also.

Re: Hopefully this Board fixes my Tach problem

I’m running the same setup, though I have the Mallory version.
It sounds like the board you’re replacing is the issue to begin with.
I had a factory Tach in my truck and then did the Points to Electronic conversion. I was expecting issues, but everything worked fine. Fast forward twenty years. One day my Tach Just started acting erratically, bouncing at first then reading low.
So I ordered and installed a new one. Problem solved.
Only after I did this, did another board member (Andy) is Find the mother board that is on your post. I could have saved about $40
I am going to order oNe of these to fix my original, just to have one on hand for a future project truck.

Thumbs up Re: Hopefully this Board fixes my Tach problem

Here is the thread I did a few months ago on this. Mine is working great with the HEI. The original tach worked also but started giving me trouble.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Cool, another vendor supporting a 50 year old class vehicle.

This is good news, let us know how it goes!

Re: Hopefully this Board fixes my Tach problem

Cajun Tach Shop also has boards for aftermarket tachs.

I thought mine was original, but it was aftermarket.

I had ordered a board for the original, then when it arrived it was way different. I contacted him, and ended up sending the whole tach to him so he could install the board and calibrate it properly.

He did a great job. I am very happy with his work.

Re: Hopefully this Board fixes my Tach problem

If you guys don't want to run Petronix, I've used these guys for many years:
https://performancedistributors.com/...nition-system/

They use to be made wholly in USA, not sure about products these day. But, never had a problem with a OEM tach with this setup.

No kidding? I had the same problem and Greg asked me to send my old board to him. A month went by and then I called him. He said my package was lost in his pile, but he found it. Another month went by. He said he was waiting on a calibration tool. Another month went by. He said he received the tool but it was broken. Another month went by. He said I needed to send the rest of my tachometer in and he would calibrate without the tool. Another month went by. He said that he had lost it in his pile, but he found it. It's been a few months, I should probably call to hear his latest excuse.

Greg seems very genuine when providing excuses on the phone, but after several months you have to fish or cut bait. I gave up on him and ended up buying a CounterPart tach from Truck/Car Shop. So far it is working fine with my GMPP HEI.

Re: Hopefully this Board fixes my Tach problem

My Burban has a factory tachometer in it and it has always read high at idle by about 300 rpm and 800 or so at 55 mph. Last week I replaced the HEI with a Pertronix set up and the unexpected benefit has been the tachometer reads about 75 rpm low at idle and 300 at 55 mph.
I am guessing the rest of the error is in the 50 year old tach.
