Subtle chops, like 1-2 inches looks allright, just enough to make a bit of a difference.

Stretching the cab, thats the coolest idea ever. Lenthen the doors while your at it. I still dont see how it feels like Ive got plenty of foot room, then sit in our 98 Jimmy that has longer doors, and feel the same room... and the foot wells are the same. Maybe these trucks are just magic

Thankyou guys for all your input, a lot of fors and againsts but I guess that's what individuality is all about, If I go for the chop the I think3" one is not too radical.
This forum is fantastic with so many enthusiasts grouping together via the internet from all over the globe and all willing to share there experiences and knowledge, down here there is not that many 67-72 chevys and anything we buy usually costs us twice as much because we have to import it from you guys in the u.s
I purchased a 67 cab and front from a friend that used to import and also a late model stepside, I found a frame and was lucky to find a 5 lug front and 12 bolt, I have a 350 th400 and to top it all off a 671 huffer and locally made gas reasearch propane carbs, so it took a bit to collect all the bits up, I'll start on it next year as I have a few domestic chores to finish of

I have the Chop Tops book by Tex Smith. It shows two chops of our trucks. Theres also sections on welding & glass cutting & chops on lots of cars even one on a 65 burb.

You can say what you want! When a chop is done correctly, It adds to the personaly of your ride.
It kind of reminds me of when I was crusing in my Kustom 50' merc.(Bailon built) The guy's that didn't like them were the one's that really wanted one.

I think it depends on the style of truck and sometimes even the color. If I look at my white truck from the front, the top looks out of proportion to the rest of the body to me and the truck is not all that low. If I chop it I will probably take out 2" in the rear and 2 1/2" in the front and I will not cut the small back window down. I think what makes a lot of chopped '67-'72 trucks look strange is the layed back windshield posts. I know it's probably easier to do that way but I don't care for them layed back.

The picture I have included is of a cab I got with a bunch of parts I bought. It has a 5" chop front and back that is too much for me and if you look at the window opening close you can see that it looks taller at the front than at the back. That is why it is generally recommended to take 1/2-3/4" more out of the front on our trucks, especially on a radical chop.

Just my 2¢ worth.

what he said!!! im sure that i have recieved some darts, head scratches,hand over th mouth mumblings of sacrilege etc but at least i built it my self, chop and all. But since ive had some 5000 veiws of my build thread i guess a chop top isnt any harder to look at than say ,extra big rims or hood scoops or my fave using the 90's style stepside on a 67-72 which in turn also take from those oh so precious "classic lines" so the bottom line here should be ENJOY YOUR RIDE, and ENJOY THE RIDES OF YOUR FELLOWS my 02 kev

I don't understand how a template of the amount of chop helps prevent the "running uphill" ... can you explain?

ok look at the drawing I posted ,
the front cab post is on an angle so if you measure 5 ''s and just cut out 5''s front and rear the front will be much higher than the back because of the front post's angle ,
laying a template across the door opening automatically calculate's how much more that would be needed removed from the front to make the top come down evenly ,
in other word's after you mark it with the template if you checked it you may be taking 5''s from the rear but the front may be 6 1/4 ''s ,,,,see

Slogo, the shaved drip rails look waaaaay fantastic. How much time did it take you to do that?
Could you post a side view of your chop? It's hard to tell you even did it at the angles you posted-although IMO, that's the best chop...subtle!
