Apples new iPad... the perfect in dash display???

Hello,

I have been wanting a touchscreen display in my dash for awhile that will play dvds, photos, music and connect to the internet for emails, GPS, internet etc.

Been thinking that the new iPad would be perfect to set up... any thoughts?

I think as time goes by, the IPad would be a kickass accessory to anyones dash! I would probably wait until the bugs get worked out of it and also to see what the reviews look like as well. I'm sure either good or bad would come of it as people get more familiar with the unit.

I'm in Australia... I have to wait.

Let me know if you get one or you hear any reviews.

Re: Apples new iPad... the perfect in dash display???

This could be cool. There was an iphone app that uses the accelerometer and acts as a dyno and was very accurate when tested against a real dyno. This would mean that you could potentally get rid of the real speedometer and tachometer.

If this will work for the ipad (it should, ipad is just a big ipod touch) then you could almost see everything needed on the dash through the ipad except your temp, oil, amps, etc. You could maybe even get rid of the stereo too

just don't watch TV while driving...

There is also an Iphone app that will act as a HUD, you lay it on your dash and it reflects off the windshield...

I am so excited - I can dump the mass of ugly gauges.

This means I can have a completely original looking dash with the screen tucked out of sight and simply swing it out when I am using it. Thieves won't know there is anything worth stealing inside.

Just imagine the world if Chev and Apple got together to design a truck?

That actually looks cool, wonder if I should go spend the money on an iphone and the app rather than replacing my speedo cable?

I'm missing how it could replace the tachometer.

The app says that it provides all of the functions of a regular dyno machine, granted it is estimated based on the accelerometer inside of the "i" devices. As far as I know all dynos not only read the speed and horsepower of the vehicle, but also show the RPM's.
Dont quote me on any of this as I havent seen this app work and Im only speculating.
