02 silverado,inner tierod ends

I have an 02 1500, 2wd that needs inner tierod ends. The truck has 165,000 on the clock, so my ? is ....Would it be more economical(in the long run), to just replace the rack & pinion assy,vs just replacing the inner tierod ends? crazyL

If you have no leaks, noises or other concerns with your current rack, I would replace the tie rod ends and bellows and call it a day.

Will that require a drill fixture, to remove the pins(like on most front drive apps)? crazyl

You can use a "inner tie rod removal tool" most auto stores have it as a loan-a-tool. Or a pipe wrench and vise grip have been used.
