Re: Project 78 High Sierra

LOL!!! Well like i said, I emailed him...Asked him why he was considering swapping in a 289 over the 302. Also what it would take t make it a daily driver....I definitely like the look and read the 4 lug and suspension will support the engine and trans but everyone suggested upgrading the drums. So may not be necessary but you know whats up

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

I do like the newer drivetrain in the yellow one. I bought a 77 trans am down in Atl one time, and had a blast drivin her home. Don't let a little distance make your mind up. Choose the CAR for the CAR, and everything else will work out. I got some good buddies with a trailer that love going to pick up antique metal. You know we're all in to help no matter what you decide.

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

What scares me about it is his response and how much work and money will be needed... From What he said below: Timing, Tune, Distributer, Tires, Brake work, and the engine may have issues...Kinda scares me.....Also my 9 month recovery from ACL surgery on my right knee

Here is how he replied :
"I was going to put an engine that could have come on the car back in the car to keep it kind of original. After doing some research I learned that half way through 1968 ford came out with the 302 because the weight proved to much for the 289. I bought the engine before I learned that. The engine runs but it is a little rough. My guess is start with the timing, tune up and distributor. To become a daily driver it would need new tires and tighten the steering box. The brakes are four wheel drum, but stop just fine. The windshield is cracked but you can see just fine. This is a project car for sure, but as I said in the post that I bought it for the good shape of the body. I "supposedly" have someone getting it this weekend if he can get the money together, so if you are interested let me know."

It sounds to me like the guy with the yellow one doesn't really know what he's got or doing! If I were looking I promise you I'd make the trip!

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

I tell you what jeff that green one scares me! I can still see the body damage on the drivers door after the paint, so if they didn't care enough to fix it then theres no telling what else has been done like that. The yellow one comes with the extra engine, sell it and make some money! The body looks great! Your knee will recover (in Jesus' name) and you will enjoy cruising hwy speeds with the T5. Converting to 5 lug and disc isn't that bad and is something you can do yourself (once you heal up). And last but not least.... Dude its just your style!

Btw 302's are easy to work on and a dime a dozen, if you happen to have issues one could be had pretty reasonably! I think he would take less also if one had cash in hand and I know you will!

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Honestly man, I've looked at all the stangs your looking again I agree with Rusbuilt go with the yellow the guy is being flat out honest with what's been done plus he's giving a free engine with it, turn around and sell it for cash so be your desire. Plus like Rusbuilt said the guy must not be really aware of what he has cause to me he might as well be saying its pretty its an awesome deal! But I do know Rusbuilt will guide you the right way better than me haha
