Things I wish I owned

I saw one of these beauties in an antique shop a while ago for $550 and now this one pops up on marketplace for $495. Its gorgeous and functional but I'd have a hard time handing over that much cash for it. If I'm spending $500 it had better make my truck faster or cooler lol. Anyone else seen something a bit out of reach.

It would look great in the bed of your truck.

Re: Things I wish I owned

I struggle with the price of some things. In the market today they may not be overpriced for what they are. But it's still a lot of money. It makes you think twice.

The way I look at it is if it's something that you can't get off your mind then just get it. Down the road 10 years from now you probably wont even remember what you paid for it.

Re: Things I wish I owned

What would it be functional to you for? Is that worth $500? I have a tin that held spare light bulbs that is Chevrolet I paid a lot for at a swap meet because it's so damn cool. But that was probably $30-$40

It would be very functional as a fantastic organizer for bolts and nuts and small parts and is it worth $500? Of course not. A plastic piece of crap from lowes could separate hardware just as well. If that Chevrolet emblem on the bottom wasn't there it would be a $50 item. It's the same reasoning people prefer to buy snap on tools vs ones that work equally well and cost a fraction what the snap on label costs.

I'm willing to bet this is probably the same piece I saw in the antique shop and the guy thought he could get more for it

Re: Things I wish I owned

I was helping a friend clean out a barn and found this cabinet , I had to have ,After carrying it down a shaky ladder from the loft and hauling it home, Here it sits ,I had plans of cleaning it up and labeling all the drawers for my hardware and it's become a catch all between the garage doors It has the keys still in the lockable door and when I just took this picture I found the extension cord I've been looking for the last 3 years ! I guess I didn't really need it that bad .

Maybe someone can turn that picture ? I tried .

I was going to say that I had the exact same cabinet without the Chevy plate that I would sell for $100, and a guy could buy a Chevy truck hood emblem and screw on it for 25 bucks....

I lilve in NJ and i am on th mailing lists for several auction places that do farm and estate auctions.. I cant tell you how many similar boxes ive seen go for $50 . Id be watching in your area farmers acquire alot of random stuff and youd be surprised how cheap stuff goes for unless its a tractor..

Re: Things I wish I owned

mine is dumb and worthless to 99.9% but I would love to find a pair of wavelength amplifiers from the early 90s. wavelength is a super high end home audio manufacturer that dabbled in car audio for just half a year. the boss at the shop I worked at had a demo car with the equipment and it was the best sounding stuff I ever heard then or since. I saw some on ebay like 20 years ago and thought the price was too high and have never seen any since.

if anyone finds an amp that says wavelength and has a powder blue wave on it with pink accent, I am your buyer.

There's one up here but they want 375K for it and it needs a ton of work Not to mention that it is also way off the beaten path. 1/2 hour to get anywhere. Good luck getting that kind of money for it.

I wanted it but it's too overpriced and if I wanted another headache I'd just get another puppy.

This is something I've been looking at for a while but for 25K I'll probably just keep looking.

This: But in my case, the '65 Impala SS 300hp/327 four speed, buckets, console and factory tach.

The '69 Mach 1 I bought when I came home from Vietnam in April of '70. 351 4 speed, rally gauges, fold down rear seat (very handy, LOL) Just under 12K miles, gave $2,600 for it and couldn't touch it today for $26,000

Got mine from my father in law. Love it but it does allow me to keep a bunch of stuff my kids will probably just toss.

Drive down some back alleys and you might find one for free. It is amazing what some people throw out because it is "old".

Indeed. I was doing mechanical consulting work for a company many years ago, and they were alerted that a company in that complex had vacated without paying rent, and the stuff inside that unit was free for the taking. The electrical tech and I went there, and discovered an Insta-Pack machine. If you are shipping delicate things, you need this kind of machine to keep it safe. We dragged it back to our unit and told the president of the company what we had. When a representative from the company came out, the president of that company had the nerve to ask if it was worth anything. The rep told him what it was worth, and his eyebrows went up "a bit". They were electrical engineers (and crooks, to boot, but that's a different story with many layers), so had no clue about mechanical things, in that case. I scored them a serious piece of equipment...they let me go a couple of weeks later.
