Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

Today was a long day, so Burb time was short....More of an inspection day !

Looks like a 3" "mini body drop" will take place in the front and middle floor supports ...
-
-

-
-
EXHAUST is almost perfect ....
-
-

-
-

-
-
Here you can see where the 3" will be need ...
-
-

-
-
And a little here as well ....
-
-

-

-
-

-
-
Yes, there is some RUSt .... but nearly as bad as Burb #1

W O W John! You are steaming on this build and it is fun to watch!!!

I'll say it again - WISH we were closer - I'd be in line to help (if needed)!

I'm betting with your energy and drive (not to mention facility), a few long days and nights, perhaps a few wings and barley-pops...

boooo-yow Jack // that'd be one~bad~burb.

KEEP ROCK'N!

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

Back on it this evening !!

I'm headed out to ARIZONA this weekend to hang with a childhood friend (baby brutha) ... So I needed to get the body down on the frame before I left ... Just to ease my mind

We did some notching of the floor braces, and some trimming of the fenderwells ... A little at a time !!

Nice score on Burb #2. Can't blame you for not wanting to deal with all that rust repair on Burb #1, so I agree with you on it being a no-brainer!

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

MORE PICS FROM YESTERDAY !!

My motivational buddy was in town again today to give me a hand. We cut the fasteners, and removed the wood floor (which it is in better shape as well).

I ran home, and grabbed the Roadmaster frame to give it a rough test fit ... looks like it is gonna be a nice swap !!

The wheelbase is actually good. It looks short in this pic, but it wasn't centered, due to the fuel fill was preventing movement.

The plan this time (since the Burb mounts are solid) is too mock up the frame to body mounts FIRST and THEN have the whole thing blasted.

At that point, I will repair what rust it does have, then proceed ...

Well I had a little bit of a speed bump today that I wasn't expecting, nor did I catch it in the beginning !!

I went to my shop, and started the day by removing the LT1's Fuel tank. This is when I noticed something ....

I was looking at the resonators and thinking "I cant wait to cut these off" .... Then I noticed the drivers side's rubber hangers looked stretched.

Then I noticed the frame !!

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....

Well the next step was to get the steering column mated to the RoadMaster box.

I notice the auto shifter was seized. Obviously, this is a problem. So yesterday I yanked the column, and did a complete disassembly, blast, and lube...

Tonight I will paint the housing, and reassemble....
-
-

-
-

-
-
Even thought the internal shaft is never seen, it still deserves a blast and coat of paint ... raw steel is how the factory did it.
-
-

-
-

-
-
Up until now, this build has been pretty inexpensive .... Recycling, and using left over parts from customer builds. I did need to purchase some u-joints, carrier, and some double-d shaft .... YIKES !! $$$
