Nice work Jesse! Rust sucks but you have the right attitude about it, one fix at a time! Great progress man!

No, we just went back with close to the original colors. The blue is a bit off, but I like it. The same guy redid my Mustang plates for me too, but he said he hated doing them so much that I wasn't allowed to tell anyone who did them

It's a lot easier mentally knowing I can still jump in the truck and cruise or go to a show (like I did on Saturday). I'm trying to minimize how long the truck itself will be down. The cab is very solid overall, but I made my own homemade rockers out of roofing tin (I know I know, I promise it's the only place I red-necked the body). They were meant to be temporary, I did them like 19 years ago... you can't even tell they're not real rockers today... The overall floor and inner rockers are very solid, but the lower kick panels will need a small section. I did have holes around the back window and expect some damage around the windshield, "just because." The under floor braces are a little crunchy the last couple inches near the rocker. So not terrible bad.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

Thanks man. Definitely a steep learning curve. I *hope* to have 1/2 the time in the 2nd door.

I finished up my high hump project. It's out of my grandpa's 72 1 ton, I used to put my feet up on it as a kid and help shift sitting between my grandparent's. My grandpa drove it like a DD. It was yellow ochre with a white top and black flat bed with the wood sides that pop off.

There's a few other pieces off the old 1 Ton on my C10 as well to help her live on.

It's going to be nice to have more clearance around the NV3500.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

I drilled the holes for the 67-70 mirrors. Lined them up, drilled a couple holes and plug welded the backing plate in. They're a total PIA to install when loose.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

Because I wanted to reuse the GM skin and I couldn't bend the original fold up without destroying both pieces, I cut the back skin off after the curve.

It came out way nicer than even I thought it would.

So that meant welding a new skin on the back. I also drilled holes and plug welded it about every 6-8" or so, like the factory one was.

Good day. The door skin went back on pretty well. Very very minimal distortion. Very happy.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

Got some pics inside the door. It's been thoroughly coated. When the paint drys I'm also going to fill in the seam along the door bottom up along the sides with seam sealer leaving only the two vent holes open. Hopefully, that will keep any water out of the door seam itself diverted to the drain holes.

It literally looks like a new repop door inside.

I did find a couple cracks around the window frames I need to fix. I *hope* to finish the speaker hole close up tomorrow, but they're calling for snow and I'm not kicking my Mustang out in the snow.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

Thanks guys. I was getting a bit worried in the middle. On the DS door I'm definitely going to repair the skin rust while it's still attached THEN remove the skin to do the inner corners.

So this was the horrific snow storm we got! Ok, it was a tad worse, for maybe 30 minutes there was barely a dusting on the ground and maybe 1/4" on the cars. Not the 2" that was predicted for here It was all gone in an hour or so.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

It sucks the pic is blurry... any guesses as to what I did here?

If you guessed "cut through the skin and brace" you are correct! It only took a few minutes to weld it back up but it was one of those "really" moments.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

I seam sealed the bottom making sure to leave the drains nice and clean. When it was almost dry I used the flat blade to smooth the transitions on the sides so water couldn't get behind it or sit.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

Last few pics are a close up of my plate (the specs are dirt, I can't keep anything clean...) There's also rubber washers under the washers

What's left of the inner door patch. For sale, slightly used door patch, $20

And finally, the speaker hole repair tacked in. That's all I could handle today, it was like 45* and I was freezing my ass off.

Re: 1967 Custom Sport Shop Truck

Ugh, bent up panels are *almost* as bad as rusty ones. That's why I kept these doors. Aside from a little "bondo over rust" in the lower corners I had them stripped when I was like 16, there is almost zero filler in them, they're completely straight. If I remember right, I didn't strip them completely bare, the red you see in the pics under the black is the factory primer, I just took the original White paint off. The factory medium blue the interior is painted is also under the dark blue I painted them.

So, I still have a few more years before I need to worry?

I still have a whole 'nother door to do. Come by and watch me screw up for a few hours before I finally get it right. It's probably pretty funny to watch...

When I get the bed done I'm doing rockers

I think the rockers was one of the easier parts to put on, with what you have already accomplished the rockers will be a breeze for you

Possibly I'm either starting on that or fuel injection as the next big project. Havent decided which one yet honestly.
