Price of a paint job nowadays?

OK.
Its been about 10 years since I had an entire vehicle painted, and I'm SURE that costs have skyrocketed.
I'm asking for "Generalities" here....you know a "Ballpark Figure" based on the info I can provide.
I know the variables, like Body work ect that factor into a paint job,
so here goes nothin'.....

I'm looking to get my 72 GMC Shortbed Fleetside painted.
Looking to have it painted a single color with some simple pin stripping.
In a "perfect world" I'd like the doors, tailgate removed , painted and re-assembled.
Also want the complete interior done (in the same color as the Exterior).
It would be a Daily Driver but would also like to show it at local Car Shows.
Don't need the engine bay painted or the inside of the bed, as the Bed will have some type of Rhino Lining in it.

What can I expect to pay for something like this?

Roger

Re: Price of a paint job nowadays?

We charge from $1300 to $2000 for a basic paint job. minimal body work no color change on most all vehicles. Thats a paint job you are still proud to drive around in. Our usual jobs with rust repair average from $3700 to $4500 but they can run upwards of $7000 pretty quickly depending on rust.
We have alot of people that come in with a $1500 car and we tell them to go to Maaco.

I agree. I took my Jeeps there a lot, and they always did a good job. Definitely not show quality, but great for a driver. The more prep work you do yourself, the better the price. Make sure you remove all exterior trim, side markers, bumpers, etc. While they do a good paint job, they are horrible with masking stuff off.

Re: Price of a paint job nowadays?

See I should have around $5k-$6K, but figured at least $1K of that will go to a new front bumper,Front Chrome around the Headlights and a Cowl hood.
I was hoping to pay about $3500.00.

Re: Price of a paint job nowadays?

Between $500 an $10,000 depending on quality. My truck is pretty straight with the typical rust places and I was quoted $5500 which I thought was pretty fair when you consider the time and parts involved to do it right.

The paint on that green one probably cost a $1000 just for the paint.

Re: Price of a paint job nowadays?

All these guys are exactly right on prices. thats why i spent 260 bucks and took about 20 hours of my time (about 2 to 3 hours a night) and painted mine myself. check out my thread my hand at body and paint is the name of it.

Its not a 10k plus show quality paint, but its a above par daily driver. Which is after all what you want..... just food for thought plus you can be proud you did it yourself.

Re: Price of a paint job nowadays?

Yeah, that green looks kinda like a candy. You may be able to pull something like that off with a regular base/clear, but it may not be as vibrant. I could be wrong. Do you have a specific color code for what you want?
I agree about taking off as much stuff as you can. Maaco won't be able to do that paint job for you, btw.

Re: Price of a paint job nowadays?

I believe the paint I was looking at was a Dupont "Madori Sour Apple Green".

I'm not looking for THAT EXACT kind of finish, but I'm not going to pay over $5K for whatever I choose.

BTW...thanks for eveyones help.

So do I need the link to the "Paint Section", or will the replies be forwarded over to THIS Thread?

If not...can I get a link please.

I have $1479.32 in paint supplies (PPG OMNI Base/Clear) and that is with the guy that painted my trucks discount. I did most of the body work (didn't need much) and a lot of the sanding and masking. I can tell you this, to get a nice finish takes a LOT of priming and sanding, and sanding and polishing. A couple of days I thought my arms were going to fall off...(no smiley here) Whatever a good painter gets for a show quality paint job he earns every penny of it! I traded labor for the paint job on the Red & White Truck but there is no doubt in my mind if I hired it all done it would have been at least 8 Grand....

Re: Price of a paint job nowadays?

Well thats not gonna happen on this end. After 3 years and 7 operations,
I have no Strength/Dexderity left in my arms/hands.
Everything Prep wise will have to be done by the Paint shop.
I had Macco paint 2 of my Vehicles, and for the price I was pleased.
I had a 70 Camaro that I did the Bodywork and they charged me $1300.00 to paint t White w/ Orange SS Stripes.
Due to MY poor workmanship the paint started to peel after about 10 months.
I REALLY think that I can get what I'm looking for in the $3-4.5K price range.
I realize it wont be "House Of Color" (like the picture I posted), but there are some nice looking Greens I've seen on Early 2000 Jeeps, Scions and Honda Preludes, that would fit the bill.

Re: Price of a paint job nowadays?

at our shop, to do a complete color change with the normal amount of rust, then you have fitments.... it would be about 12000 in canadian. and that green is alot, cause that is the color mine is going, limetime. about 2-3thousand by the time you are done with everything.
