Gas tank riddle
Are the filler necks different from year to year model to model?
I ask because I got a tank out of a 68 and the filler has rings. The tank in my 69 has no rings. They are both marked GM and are identicle except for thos rings... Am I trippin to think the 68 is actually a 68? The 69 is a 3/4 4WD. Not sure what the 68 was but assume C20. Thanks folks!

i could be wrong but i read somewhere the ribbed neck was to identify vented or non vented tank maybe in a part book if not here

The HD trucks will lack all venting and charcoal cannister stuff, maybe the gives them a different style? My C2500 isn't home at the moment but I believe it's got the rings too.
There are at least two different styles of rubber grommets, for what that's worth.

Thanks folks.
I figured it was a year thing. I know there are different grommets. I have disassembled at least ten to fifteen of these trucks and never came across the ribbed filler neck until now. It has nothing to do with venting. Loc Doc so far has the best explanation for the ribs or rings. I'll get pictures and post in this thread after the weekend for a visual. My guess is another model year difference rather than K vs C 10 vs 20 thing. Of course my 69 was built early 68. Could be a plant thing. Fremont vs St. Louis. Meh... If the fuel sender is the same and it accepts the same filler to body gasket I will probably just install it and forget it. Cheers all and thanks for the input.

What riddle? There is not no joke, I for one have been wondering for years? Where does all that gasss go that passes the grommet? Man them things drink, no question, just drinking and more drinking and still aint drunk! |

My 67 has a straight neck to the tank. My 69, 70, 72, have a ring neck type. I'm pretty sure this is for cab flex. Believe it or not, my 67 has a lot more interior rear cab squeaks than my other Pickups, and a f-ton more tank fuel slosh.

Do the caps swap back and forth? The tank that was in my '69 had a smaller cap than a '71 I had. Thought I had a nice chrome cap to swap but didn't fit
