Re: My 52 GMC Build

Saw this beast near my cottage this weekend. I talked to the owner it's built as a mud truck for competition. 2.5 ton rockwell axles powered by a 460ci. At some point I am going to get a pic of my truck parked next to it LOL.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

So last night I went to a small car show, fund riser 15 min from my house. There where some really nice vehicles there for a small event, maybe 50. My Dad came with his green 1951 MG TD you can see beside me in the first pic.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Today we did our drive to Woodstock for a car show fundraiser. It was a 1/2hr at 60 mph in 30C/86F, truck ran great. It was very comfortable cruising at that speed at 2300rpm. It's not going to brake any land speed records but it gets up to speed real quick. Met up with a few friends that live over there and ended up winning "Most personalized vehicle".

Ya I may have had that one in the bag the second I drove in. Funny thing tho, nobody with a car there even knew there where awards.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

While I was in Woodstock Sunday we stopped in at one of the fire halls to try and get a picture of when my truck was a 5 ton fire truck back in '52. I gave my info to the fire chef and he was going to forward it off to a few ppl. This is what I got so far.

Thanks. The old picture is my truck, when it was a fire truck. Still trying to get more info on it's life. Paris show is this Sunday June 5 8:00-4:00 Paris fair grounds. I am planning to get there about 9:00.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

So today I finally got my cup holders finished and installed. Then my oldest son helped me run and hook up the wires for the interior lights. 2 LED's for the foot wells and LED bulb in the old upper cab light.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

So Yesterday I had to pull the axle shaft and drill a new vent hole in the axle tube for the diff. My gamble of putting it in the cover did not work at all. Every time I went faster than city speeds I would spew out gear oil all over the back of the truck. So I tied a string to a rag and shoved it in past where I was drilling to pull out any filings that fell in. Then I shoved my magnet wand down to make sure. Also made up some quick brackets to hold some air line under the bed.
